This list of the top 15 G5 coaches was assembled last year. Given our AD's history of banging the hell out of the table for G5 recognition and respect, I would not be surprised if he has reached out to some of these. Thoughts?

Bryan Harsin, Boise State <--- now at Auburn
Ken Niumatalolo, Navy
Bill Clark, UAB
Lance Leipold, Buffalo
Craig Bohl, Wyoming
Frank Solich, Ohio
Troy Calhoun, Air Force
Jeff Monken, Army
Josh Heupel, UCF
Luke Fickell, Cincinnati
Chris Creighton, Eastern Michigan
Blake Anderson, Arkansas State <--- now at Utah St
Butch Davis, FIU
Billy Napier, Louisiana Lafayette
Willie Fritz, Tulane

Our dude Chadwell isn't on that list, so that's another.
Neither is Hugh Freeze from Liberty

Like many, I expected we'd have to go down our list. There are only so many elite hires and not everyone is interested in a tough path. UT admin has been hammering the need for patience-- even more patience than we've had before. Coaches have to wonder how much of that they're going to get, and we need someone who's able to move forward with blinders if the answer is not as much as they need.
So who is the whistle blower that has enabled us to only be able to hire a coordinator? Name on rock please. Why not a guy like Chadwell who has always wanted to be here? Sure, doesn’t have the chops of others but apparently others aren’t biting.

I could be wrong but I don’t view Swinney anywhere on the same level as Saban in that I believe Dabo’s assistants have more to do with their success than Sabans.
You’re basing that on all the Dabo assistants that have been successful elsewhere?
There's only one that left for a HC job and he absolutely gutted Arkansas. I think they put a restraining order on him for the entire state.

People joke about the cult thing, but in all seriousness, why does no one ever leave that place? I don't know. I guess you could spin it as a positive or a negative.

Some are reading my comments as negative, but that's not the case. This is the process. You have a shortlist. It's both optimistic and opportunistic. The top is generally the guys everyone wants, and they're often locked in where they are or waiting for something specific. Most schools go down their list. If you have a Top 5, anyone on that list would be considered a win.
Yeah. I think we all get that... And from the candidate side... If you're really not interested those conversations are either really short, or you find out fairly quick what line the program won't cross to close a deal...

And sometimes.. It's just a non starter. Speaking from experience I have turned down an opportunity before because of a requirement to move.. Situationally speaking, it just wasn't the right time.

And our situation right now, to your point on the candidate waiting on something specific, either makes that process a little longer if negotiating a deal between two interested parties... Or it's really really short...

We have no general time line, I don't feel any solid info is leaked. I have no doubts LAVol is right and we are working the list. What I'm curious to know is how far down the list have we worked? And hire much further do we have to go? I'd hate to think we had to start another list. I think that's what hurt us last couple of hires.

Sigh.. so we just have to get lucky with a mcgoogle...

I know its not fair to assume Elliot is Pruitt 2.0 but I can't help it. Tennessee did this to me. I didn't just wake up and decide to be negative.
I was fine until Pruitts last season. I really went full negavol.
there are plenty MAC head coaches or current mid majors we can promote in lieu of retreads.

You guys that are 100% negative have issues.

Hyping up a coordinator that has never coached a single down at a big program isn’t being negative.

You believe the hype then set yourselves up for disappointment when it doesn’t work out.
