One of the knocks on Dykes is that he is VERY thin skinned. He wouldn’t survive 2 years here.

Lol, they said a CFB HOF coach was a bad AD, from day 1. All guy did was do his best. Removed him, and replaced with a good hire, albeit, same ****, so it seems.

He did his best? He let Pruitt burn this university to the ground. A good AD doesn’t allow for 50+ level 1 and 2 violations.

No - I don't think it is a very good job at all, and it wasn't a great job for Dykes in particular. One of the reasons cited for his firing by their AD was that he didn't fit it with the Cal culture. Oh really - I never guessed a guy originally from rural Texas and who had previously coached at Texas high schools and Louisiana Tech would have trouble fitting in in Berkeley. :rolleyes:

Goff did put up really nice numbers when Dykes was his coach, but they were never able to translate that into team success, and Dykes can't take credit for recruiting Goff either (he was one of Tedford's players).

our reputation precedes itself, and we know there are rival programs that do plant folks on message boards/twitter to take advantage of negative recruiting opportunities.... it wouldn't shock me if that were the case here either.....

I will say if you hire an offensive mind like Dykes it’s more fun to lose scoring a lot of points than 14. It’s not Dykes though. 247 said he is a name but they don’t see this getting there. Basically said the floor is Elliot and he wouldn’t say no. There are worse floors that’s for sure.

I wouldn’t count on it being a UT fan to begin with. This is exactly the sort of thing that rival fanbases do to one another. TAMU fans got drilled over a fan sending a racist letter to the Sumlins and TAMU fans showed their rear ends by claiming Sumlin’s wife wrote it for sympathy. About a year later it was found to have been written by a Texas fan.

Dykes didn’t get any traction for any amount of time. It’s not that we wouldn’t do this but that it’s a bit too fast and convenient.

Coaching this team is not a dream hire for a great deal of people. The roster is not good and we’re looking at NCAA sanctions. Not everyone is clamoring to come to Knoxville. While whoever he hires may not be your first choice, he’ll be a great hire. I’m not worried about it because White knows what he’s doing and has a track record to prove it.

Here is where I am this morning....I can't think of a single reasonable candidate that I would rather have less than Sonny Dykes. Give me Jamey Chadwell. Give me Lance Leipold. Give me Josh Heupel. Give me Jeff Fisher (he could at least bring NFL experience and probably hire a decent staff). Give me Dooley or Butch again (maybe they've learned some stuff along the way). Give me anyone other than Dykes.
