Randy Shannon was there to recruit Miami.Hubbs and AP said this morning he doesn't like Randy Shannon, and never liked Randy Shannon.
Supposedly Randy Shannon was hired by DW, not JH.
Even if he is hands off of the defense, which I am fine with, hopefully he finds somebody good who he can see eye to eye with.
We’ll notice. All in with giving Heupel a full chance, but (at least initially) he’s Mullen level at closing recruits...which was my negative on his hiring.True, but didn't JH just inherit 3 straight top 20 classes? I mean there could be a dip in recruiting with him here, but if he can just develop the high rated classes he inherits will we even notice a dip?
I was following until WM. I don’t want him here at all. Here's what I'd like to see, in an ideal world:
Elarbee and Golesh are non-negotiables for me. Those guys have to be here.
Kodi Burns is a good recruiter, bring him as well. Kodi Burns, Wide Receivers Coach (FB), Auburn Tigers
I hope Steele stays because I want someone with Tennessee ties on staff. Garner is a great recruiter, so is Brick Haley. All three are great football coaches too. I'd put Haley in the outside linebackers role, have Steele as inside linebackers. Garner can have the defensive line.
JJ McClesky and/or Willie Martinez as secondary coaches. Montario Hardesty as RBs coach. McClesky can recruit Louisiana, Hardesty covers the Carolinas.
Our defense is going to be rough for a little bit no matter who gets the keys. I don't want a overall tiny Big 12 style defense..that will absolutely not work against the better teams in the SEC.I agree. It’s a double edge sword. If you take our current roster and line them up we will get blown up. We need a teacher and developer of talent and fundamentals. If you take someone like Steele he will develop a roster and teach but it will be a brutal learning lesson on the field for a few years until we can get the Jimmys and Joes in here on defense if we try to run a Steele type scheme.
5 - D'Shawn Rucker -FROk so stab at roster left over. If I am correct doesn't everyone stay in what class they were the year before. So Bailey is just a freshman all over again?
I have put a few notes on questions I have, everyone give me tips and I'll keep editing it and then can start a new thread for discussion/tracking once we have it closer to correct.

That would be the worst loss in Volnation history. Stay with us @Neyland Rising@Neyland Rising in the portal. Per Hubbs.....
Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel is working on assembling his coaching staff and it’s expected to have a Central Florida flavor to it on offense.
Thursday morning Tennessee’s University jet flew from Orlando back to Knoxville with several people from UCF’s staff.
In talking to numerous people, we believe offensive line coach Glen Elarbee will be joining the Vol staff. Heupel said on Sportstalk on Wednesday that he plans to call his own plays which makes you believe his set up at Tennessee will be like what he did at Central Florida which included Alex Golesh as his co-offensive coordinator. Heupel’s quarterbacks coach at UCF is Joey Halzle, who played for Heupel at OU. Halzle was UCF’s quality control coach in 2019 and was the qb’s coach in 2020 after Jeff Lebby left that position to go to Ole Miss. We believe Halzle is going to be on the staff and is in Knoxville.
There continues to be some rumblings that Kodi Burns, who joined Heupel’s staff at Central Florida earlier this month could be his receivers coach.
RB needs to be HardestyHC - Heupel
OC/TE Coach - Golesh (Give him the OC title) no reason to spend a ton of money if Heupel calls plays.
QB - Halzle
RB - ?
WR - Kodi Burns
OL - Elarbee
DC - Arnett
DL - Garner
LB - TWill
Secondary - ?
Yes, I'm aware that Arnett would probably coach LB's, if he came here.
His offensive staff should be able to recruit pretty well, even without the SEC track record. How hard can it be to sell kids on coming in and putting up crazy stats.Bring in the guys he is comfortable with on offense - it clearly works. Don't fix it. It ain't broke.
Bring in a new DC and let him hire his guys.
This doesn't seem that hard.
HC - Heupel
