Ahh the beauty of running out of the spread. A simple mathematical game. Fewer blockers...fewer defenders in the box...better chance of everyone blocking their man (as a group)...more space to run. Meanwhile the DBs are a mile away by the sideline. He's always been almost exactly 50-50 run pass split. Extremely balanced. Always top 20 in rushing yards. 2019 had 4 RBs with over 600 yards rushing. Lots of briles run concepts with wr split so far out they can't stack the box, so just run right up the middle. Usually with a handful of qb option runs a game too.
Good thing is JH has legit done it mostly without running QBs. If he has a running QB, lord, it just adds another dimension. But far from necessary for him.Every coach we have had has either implicitly or explicitly said they can be successful with a running QB or a pocket passer, and JH is the first one that I actually believe him.
The QB comp will be very interesting in the Spring.
Shoot, I'll be impressed when the QB race doesn't come down to, "uhm he can line us up and get us into the right play". That was the saddest thing I ever heard from a P5 coach. GET LINED UP?!I’ll be impressed the first time they go 1 series without 2 false starts
