I honestly don’t understand how you hire defensive position coaches before a DC. I would have bet money a DC was incoming when Gardner hire was public. It’s becoming obvious that Tennessee will always choose the most difficult path.

There are no official defensive position coaches hired yet. Garner is like Steele right now an analyst.

So it seems there is an emphasis on diversity with this staff. Can someone please explain to me what in the hell does the color of a persons skin have to do with coaching?

LOL experience.... Mack has zero experience running the ball at RB... period. Hardesty has run the ball as a RB in the SEC for four years and probably most of his life...

No comparison.... how do you teach something you've never done at a high level? YouTube? Observing? Take a lap... Every RB would take advice and coaching from someone who's actually been there and done it than someone who's observed it.

i believe I read somewhere that since Hardesty accepted the position at S. Carolina that he would not renege for another job this year. So...he wasn’t an option.

Mack has been a HC, AHC, and OC and although he has not been a RB specific coach, his overall resume is greater. I’m sure there is a lot of acquired knowledge obtained along the way.

Get on board the bus, dude. It’s about to take off.

Texas just went about it in a similar way. Hired a safeties coach, CB's coach, and DL coach before they hired their DC, and still ended up getting a good one from Washington. It can be done, and Garner is an assistant that any SEC DC would welcome.

LOL seriously? Just because someone is a CEO doesn't mean they know how to sell or run the finance department... So he knows the "proper Technique".... so the guy watched a bunch of videos and watched someone cook, so he should be head chef at a michelin star restaurant?.. I'd want and take my position coach at a Power 5 conference SEC school more seriously if he had actually run the ball at RB in a game at a high level, than one who's called plays and run the offense... But I guess that's just me....

If you have kids that are about to learn to drive--- don't worry, I'll find you a guy who can teach them that has played Daytona on XBox, ridden in a 100 cars, and watched TV shows about driving, but has never driven a car a day in his life... don't worry, they'll be fine...

If you did the research, you would know that Tommie Robinson, Del McGee, Jay Boulware, Greg Knox are all well respected or well paid RB coaches who never played the position.

Football isn’t rocket science. I guarantee you that most competent OC’s know what their RB’s should be doing on every play and what technique should be used.

But carry on.

Yesterday the news was good. Mack is a really good hire, some of the strange and uninformed takes aside. Garner is a stud. Ran into a couple of Auburn folks today who see him as the biggest loss on their staff. Today, not much good news, but people are still working hard behind the scenes to get this right. Moaners and groaners, this is your day. Congratulations.

Global warming has increased the incidence of malignant melanomas in fair skinned coaches. With great concern for their health, and a desire to avoid the inevitable Pasty Coach Class Action lawsuit, UT is getting ahead of it and hiring people better adapted to the changing environment.

Maybe.
