Also, I keep seeing the narrative that coaches are turning us down because the job is too toxic or too bad a job, but I can't wrap my head around that. IF the job is really viewed that poorly, should there be no pressure?

If you come and have success you did the impossible. If you come and fail, nobody would hold it against you if the job is supposedly that bad. You'd still be able to find other opportunities because isn't that exactly what everyone expected to happen?

I mean, both Dooley and Pruitt landed on their feet in the NFL.
Butch might have, if he'd had the desire to.

But technically CJH has experience in running an SEC offense. Was what he did at Missouri detrimental to the defensive side of the ball?

100%. This gets totally ignored by the hand wringers looking for negativity. As if somebody who knows O like CJH, doesn't know how to adjust tempo to what his roster can handle. Ridiculous.

It's all about point differential. Doesn't matter what the actual scores total. If your team can achieve a +7 to10 on the season, your team is going to win 9+ games with an SEC schedule. I'm old school and understand analytics well enough to know that. Why did two D-coaches like the last two NC champions, Saban and Orgeron, realize that and change to more uptempo O's that score in bunches? That actual tempo of the O can be increased or decreased depending on game situations and roster. CJH knows this stuff. Quit focusing only on what he did at UCF to keep the program winning.

I think we are really kidding ourselves when we think they aren’t getting their info from
Tenn. I mean do we think JH and his agent leaked the info of him being the Tenn coach? I sure don’t
The point is its all speculation. As to JH to Tennessee, I suspect that came from the UCF side. Also, as it gets closer to the announcement, sure theyll be leaks from everywhere. More people get told when it's done and the more that know the more they talk. Nature of the business.

The VQ guys have contacts all over the country. DW can't control the information they are receiving from the other side. Who's to say this information isn't leaking from their sources from outside the UT AD?

I agree with the notion that the other side is where the majority of the info is coming from. An inquiry of interest is conveyed as a full fledge pursuit then comes a "our guy is staying with us" memo to the media to report. The Louisville DC and USC DC fall into that category as I don't recall any info coming from VQ regarding these two.

I Think DW is learning the nature of the business in Knoxville is VQ is going to know what’s going on and there is nothing he can do about it

UT AD looking around at the coaching world after offering everyone the DC position....

That is how I woke up, heard a crash outside thinking a tree was coming down on me. Got lots of trees around my place. Parked my vehicle way up the driveway in the clear, I had to learn the hard way with a big limb through window several years back.
My driveway is lined will mature loblolly pines for about 75 yards. I pulled our vehicles up and into the grass in the side yard by the house. Couldn't take any chances. Trees are holding up ok here so far but if we get another. 10" of freezing rain things will get ugly. About to hit us again, I hope it's just sleet to snow.

MS State ranked 10th in offense in the SEC.

I don't think they were playing the TOP game as a favor for their defense. I think they were playing the TOP game because their offense sucked and that was the only way they were going to have a chance to win.

Leach would be playing the same way as Kiffin if his offense was working.

Just like Gus after 2015. He didn't just decide one day he wanted to be a defensive oriented team. His offense stopped working and he had to play to his strengths.

I'm sure JH has the sense God gave geese to know he can't score under 30 points a game AND have zero TOP. But I'm sure he would rather go out there and hang 40 and not worry about clock management just like he has done everywhere else.

I certainly think it's a factor, but not what is killing these deals.

We have several things working against us all at once where if it was just one thing it would be easier to overcome but we have an accumulation of issues.

Fastest offense - built in negative perception for a DC where they have to be willing to deal with lots of yards and focus on pts/turnovers

Major NCAA cloud - thanks guys! It was so worth it they said. Anything to rid of Pruitt/Fulmer they said(except just not being a cheap ass and using that good Ole FU money on a buyout).

Decade or longer of Turmoil with now 3 staffs that couldn’t fix it - like it or not we don’t have many former coaches that would recommend coming here or don’t regret coming here.

From a DC perspective, let’s say you call the last few DCs that have been here. Would they give a glowing review? Wilcox was successful but hated it the spotlight and grind of the SEC and prefers West Coast style. Sunseri can never rid of the stink of that one year. Jancek probably would give a good review as he was his own undoing and also more issue with Butch than TN. Shoop career went from rising star to dog poop. Sherrer gets demoted after a year. Ansley sees two disasters in his tenure under two TN staffs and hurts his rising star status. This stuff can cause a guy to pause just based on perception that nobody seems to be able to figure it out.

Really curious what’s making these deals fall apart last minute. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it.

Probably not even near as close to being done as being reported

Seems like some reporters would like things to seem more hectic and bad news then what is really going on

Our local guys love drama and are a big part of the problem

Not concerned at all. I dont believe we've been turned down like it's being portrayed. I think Al Washington was the top choice (isn't that what you're hearing @Stoerner Fumbles?), and talks with him stretched several days...4 to 6 days, imo....maybe longer. With that being said...

Heupel has been on the job 18 days. So, take away 4 to 6 days from that, and we're looking at around 2 weeks to ponder, pivot, talk, proceed.
Bama lost Sark on Jan 3, and O'Brien was named on the 21st...18 days. Aurburn hired Harsin on Dec 22, if I'm not mistaken...he hired Mason 15 days later, and Bobo, 16 days later. Beamer, at USCe, took 30+ days to find OC AND DC.

The reason we are concerned, or freaked out, or bitching and belly aching is because we're Tennessee. We burn sh!t in the middle of the street whenever things don't go our way; we conduct revolts, and then justify said revolt with something half the people revolting weren't even aware of (you'll never convince me that Shiano Sunday was about Penn St...it had everything to do with Jon Gruden not being named HC). Some of us are so miserable and lost, about 5 or 6 days ago, we started begging for John Jancek back. See what I'm saying? It's pathetic. MANY on here would believe it if some random poster, acting like an insider, said Bill Belichick was coming; then, whenever it didn't happen, they would set themselves on fire. Saw an example today: someone just mentioned Shoop; and, before long posters were asking where the Shoop news was coming from.

Also, another note, just to give some more perspective about time and patience: Rich Rodriguez turned Bama down on Dec 8, 2006...Nick Saban was hired 26 days later, on Jan 3, 2007. Can you imagine 26 days of this place, if that happened. HOLY SH!T!

Twenty-six days. UT fired Pruitt and Fulmer on Jan 18...Danny White hired Jan 22...Josh Heupel hired Jan 27. UT fired an AD and HC, and had both positions filled in 9 days; and, still, this place was melting down.

Again, this rebuild is going to take all of us: school, AD, coaches, players, fans. Yet to be seen if the other four will live up to their part of the bargain; but, as of this moment, many of us fans are failing miserably...completely melting down because things are not working within OUR individual time frame. Danny White (a move that ALL of college athletics called GRAND SLAM) hasn't been here a month, and some already want him run off. THAT'S how ridiculous some are acting. I would be ashamed of myself; but, hell...it's 2021, looking like an ass has become cool somehow. Glad I didn't get the memo.

Bravo!
