we play against house odds, every year. we get up off the mat and Saban points, Sankey does thy bidding and we get knocked down again(not to mention we cant get out of ohr ****ing way).

Yeah - your last point is the biggest. We cannot get out of our own way.

I'd one day like to be firing a coach for the same reasons Auburn fired Malzahn - "he bored us because he made bowl games every year, recruited top 10 classes, pumped out NFL talent, won an SEC title or two, but only played for one national championship."

Not sure since he actually enrolled. They might be able to appeal it.
Same I was thinking. I think the whole "get the scholarship back" thing was for letting kids fully out of their NLI. If he was an EE, then we're far past the NLI and he has officially received a scholarship/is a counter. So, I wouldn't think we'd get Washington's scholarship back, but would love to be wrong. This offseason of transfers has been brutal.

By my count we have 67 scholarship guys right now plus 12 covid freebies. That’s 79 total scholarship level players.
The one year other teams might have 95-100 scholarship players oof.

Hype gonna earn his salary and wins this season. God bless the man that touched this leper.

IIRC, the player has to not participate in any team activities in order to get the IC back. I kind of doubt it still applies if the player didn't participate due to being suspended. But who knows.

Hey Bud, there are still many rounds remaining and your post did not reference the first round only. You said "pro potential." You might need to review your previous comments before responding going forward. Just a bit of fiendly advice.

Why? How many drafted players have we seen bust out of the league? How many UDFA's have we seen become mainstays in the NFL?

I stand by comments. Palmer has the frame/build you'd want in a WR prospect, but there is a reason he wasn't in the top 20-25 WR prospects for the draft.

If you're seriously going to be one of those types to sit here and say I'm wrong solely based on Palmer getting drafted in 5-7 rounds or get signed as an UDFA, you're rebuttal is barely hanging on by a thread. But apparently I should have dumbed down my comments on what "pro potential" means. Palmer would needs a miracle to happen to become to stay in the NFL. Regardless drafted or signs as UDFA.

This ain't hard to understand.

You get the scholarship back, but the problem is transfers count against the 25 a year limit. Which, if you're gonna do that, you can't make it so easy to transfer, which they just did. So they need to change the way they count IMO.
Big downside imo is it could exacerbate transfers. Coaches like Saban will straight cut 15 players and take the best transfers from everywhere. Coaches could really abuse it imo.

@griddie who was that Eastern NC recruit from a couple years ago (2019?) that was committed for months but eventually had to go JUCO? Was rated a strong 4*...I believe a safety but basically an athlete. Wondering ehatever happened to that kid because people were so high on him.

Good posts on the top heavy aspect of CFB. Going to go all Chattanooga on you today.

What happened in college basketball when the tournament field was greatly increased as well as the rise of conference tournament winners getting the automatic bye? Became one of the most interesting and watched events in all sports with March Madness. Even with the NCAA trying to keep the blue bloods relevant, they have all dropped down a notch. Add in the one and done and you see massive roster turnovers of the historical elites and others that fuel hope for lesser programs who have guys that stay and develop chemistry.

Same could happen with CFB - just becomes Winter Madness. All of the G5, non-conference programs and lesser P5 need to band together and push/vote for a larger playoff immediately. At one time I thought 8 was right (which is probably happening), but now I think 16 would be better. It's a process to open the sport up to newcomers at the top - just like it was in CBB. Will take time but be well worth it IMO. Reduce the OOC games by one and go back to an 11 game season with at least 9 conference games for all programs. Forget loading up with OOC cupcakes. One tune-up game and one against a equal or stronger program. All conferences must play CG game. Not in a conference - you get one shot in the 16 as a wild card so you better schedule strong. Good luck with that. Encourage conferences to expand to take in those who are not in one.

So in my fantasy land field of 16 for the NC:
10 spots to P5: CG winner and highest rated by BCS committee as the second participant. Sometimes the second best team does not make the CG game because they are in the same division. To eliminate that as an issue - do away with divisions and rivalries. Even the playing field or be subject to a committee's decision. First and second place team play each other for the championship. Personally, I am sick of getting the shaft by Birmingham with scheduling. Rivalries mean very little anymore, especially after the one time transfer rule has passed. Loyalty to archaic traditions hinders the goal of opening up the field for every program to get a fair shot. It is past time to move on and I am over being taken advantage of by make-believe rivalries that hand chosen programs a nearly automatic win each season.
5 spots to G5: CG winner if divisions exist. If not, the first and second place team play each other for the championship.
1 wildcard spot: Chosen by the committee from the entire field including programs not in conferences. Occasionally a P5 will have a third place team worthy of the wildcard.

Committee seeds the participants just like March Madness. More major bowls for the playoffs. The non-participants can still go to lesser ones. Losing one OOC game revenue will be more than made up from the increased revenues of CFB's version of March Madness when the conferences split the take. One less home game will increase demand for tickets with many programs (including ours)- which fills them up while charging higher ticket prices, increasing donations, and increasing concession/gear sales.

Over time and with tweaking all programs would benefit IMO. It lifts the level of play and opens up the competition. G5 would get their shots and be available for inclusion into P5 through conference expansion. The Liberty's and Coastal's of the world would be on the big stage. NCAA members wanted one time free agency for players. OK - now it is beneficial for all programs. Coaches can go to the portal as they need to and the players will still have the opportunity to play for the ring depending on the options available to them. With all of the coaching turnover it is fair to give them that option IMO. The coaches need to be smart about the transfers they select and yes, it is another recruiting period they have to deal with. They make the big bucks - deal with it.
The biggest point here, imo, is the 1-and-done rule. This brings so much parity with it to basketball.

If we ever want more parity I really think a 2-and-done rule (I guess this would be from the NFL) needs to happen. All those third year 5*s at Bama...bye bye. The game would become more about coaching and team than a handful of elite players winning it every year for the chosen teams.

Are you thinking of Anthony Harris?

I have always been in favor of coaches not being able to restrict where a player transferred to. I have also always been in favor that transfers must sit out a year, but can be on scholarship while they do. I recently have accepted that maybe one transfer could be "free" with no restrictions, but if that person wanted to transfer again (without any extenuating circumstances), they would have to sit a year. The Transfer portal is absolute craziness now. Rosters are going to get flipped every year, I think. Also, this year, so many players will not find a home or will find one at a lower level than they envisioned. Not really excited where all of this is going, to be honest.
My question is, how the hell could you guys for this stuff not see the massive chaos that it would be?

Believe it was Tony Gonzalez that did similar and it really helped extend his career. Tom Brady has also done it and is straight vampiric...dude just stopped aging lol
It was a joke. But yeah, I'm sure eating healthy has helped them, but I'd rather be happy, and that involves red meat for me.

If I could get away with it.... I would be there twice a day.
