That is another thing to look at…. How has the emergence of travel ball affected arm injuries…There is innings limits in travel ball as well so they can’t pitch a kid continuously….. typically, at the youth travel ball level….. kids throw a small bullpen session Tuesday or Wednesday and then pitch on the weekends….. is it still too much? I don’t know…… I do think some of the training methods have negative effects on kids….. I’m very much against throwing weighted baseballs….. I feel it is bad on those young arms.

As for mechanics….. Dustin may who is out with an arm injury….. last year threw a 98 mph pitch that moved 17 inches….. that’s just not natural….. some of the ways guys torque their arms nowadays is unreal.
Depends on what age, what weight, and how they are being used in regards to your weighted ball comment.

To me the biggest part of arm care at a young age revolves around proper arm conditioning. Too many kids pitch fair too much with an unconditioned arm. They start throwing in February on an infrequent basis then start playing in early March through November which amounts to 100+ games. Then take a few months off, put on 10-15 lbs of normal growth in the off season without conditioning their arm the following season to the added growth. Its a recipe for disaster.

Think bigger.

I waterski, wakeboard and wakesurf. Bigger would be bad. The jetboat with ballast sacks empty has a minimal wake like an inboard. With ballast sacks filled, it throws up a very good wake for wakeboarding. The new boat will be better than my current boat for wakesurf (my wife likes to wakesurf). A bigger boat wouldn’t allow me to do the fun stuff…

I also think that there is too much emphasis on max effort pitches and throwing breaking balls at a young age. Both put stress on the arm and can lead to bad mechanics. JMO, but kids should learn to command a fastball and change up with easy, proper mechanics before attempting breaking pitches.

I dont disagree at all. Interesting enough though, Tom House, the guy that Nolan Ryan credits with prolonging his career, says that a curve ball thrown properly at a young age is no more harmful than a fastball.

He teaches pre-set grip, firm wrist (do not break over), and throw much like a football. Obviously this pitch won't be as successful at later ages but can get through those years were a kid is wanting to throw a breaking ball and the coach is wanting outs lol.
