-crappy recruiter (was very comparable to scott frost at UCF who was praised for his recruiting)
He was quite a bit better than Frost too. Those yokels down in Orlando apparently missed where he brought in a bunch of P5 transfers each year...and transfers do not count toward your recruiting ranking, team average, or score(!!)

Pre-Heupel/Frost
2016

Scott Frost's 2 mostly his own classes:

28 HS Recruits
0 transfers

2018
83.64 Average
177 Score

26 HS Recruits
+1 transfer...1 from P5

Mostly Heupel's classes:
2019
84.24 Average
179 Score

22 HS Recruits
+9 transfers...8 from P5

2020

20 HS Recruits
+3 transfers...all 3 P5

2021

SMH at people thinking Heup is a "system" HC. Nothing about the guy is system. Process - yes. System - no. He has a significant history as OC and HC to see that. He adapts what the scheme does to the players he has, how they develop, and to who he can sign. Then finds what appears to work best against each opponent. Folks need to get over what Botch and Chaney were trying to force-feed into their system approaches.
Sign me up for any system that generates 40 ppg

How was UCF before he got there vs when Heupel got there? That should be part of your thought process.
10, 12 and 9 wins in 3 of the last 4 previous seasons. Went winless the previous season but there was some obvious crap going on that made O’Leary a midseason firing casualty.

He was 19-7 at UCF I believe. Heupel was 28-8. . .

Frost is 31-27 overall. CJH is 28-8.

He's not been an outstanding coach, save 1 undefeated year @ 13-0.
Heup also has more history as an OC/QB coach. UCF fans = not smart. Gonna love watching Gus tank that program
