You won’t be alive. The zombies always get the fetal position people first. The year is 2036. Alabama is running off their 30th straight in the series. Oklahoma just beat us the previous week by 27, but it was only a two score game at the beginning of the 4th so we feel like we're seeing real progress. We are assured our return is "just around the corner." People crack jokes about Nebraska and Colorado being dead programs and do so without any sense of irony. But at least we have tradition.

Do you know who James Stockdale is?You won’t be alive. The zombies always get the fetal position people first.
This guy?Do you know who James Stockdale is?
Admiral who was Ross Perot's running mate in 1992. You probably know him. He was a POW in Vietnam.
You know the people who Stockdale said didn't make it? The optimists. The ones who said "We're getting out soon. It's just around the corner." Then they'd turn the corner and...they were still there. It was too much. Getting their hopes up only to see them repeatedly dashed against the rocks was overwhelming.
But cheer up, for the worst is yet to come.
This guy?

I remember this domination at the VP debate. I was born in 1969 so unless he taught pre-school after Nam, it’s unlikely paths were crossed. As a POW, giving up would’ve served him well. Doesn’t sound like that was his real path. Maybe you misinterpreted…out of desperation. I’m not asking YOU to forego giving up. Makes the train lighter.
Yeah bro, gotta get Bama, UGA, and LSU in our pod so we can show everybody how big our dongle is.Posters yesterday: “I don’t want to go to the ACC, if we beat bad teams it means nothing”
Some of the same posters: “they should do this...Tennessee, USC, UK, Vandy” lol oh so you mean the weakest possible pod of the conference. Got it.
When you hire the right guy and everyone pulls in the same direction…it works. I’ve followed the Vols since the late 70’s and knew what I was seeing in the mid-80’s. You’re not inventing new case law. Majors was never going to do it…until he did. Fulmer was never going to beat Florida, much less play in a NC…until he did. So go expect failure and you’ll see it where it ain’t. Enjoy the hot dog. It's not about giving up. It's about maintaining some sense of realism. As they say, crap in one hand and hope in the other and see which one fills up first.
I've been on this board for 14 years hearing about how this is all just a temporary slump. I've seen HOF coaches, coaches with the right pedigree, coaches with head coach experience, coaches without head coach experience, decorated coordinators, monsters on the recruiting trail, and every last one of them has fallen flat on their faces. At some point it's no longer Mike Hamilton's fault, or Phil Fulmer's, or Derek Dooley's, or Butch Jones's, or Dave Hart's, or whoever's. I'll believe it when I see it. I'm coming up for the Pitt game at least. You'll be able to spot me, I'll be in the fetal position during the 4th quarter.
Stockdale read a lot of Epictetus, the ancient Stoic, to get him through his time as a POW. One major tenet of Stoicism is to not let yourself be concerned about matters outside your control, which is the exact opposite approach to being a sports fan.Do you know who James Stockdale is?

I was thinking the same thing and I think it is only a matter of time.Critique business plan please. Tell me why it's rubbish/will fail....suggestions on how to improve:
1) Create a company - preferably an LLC, S-Corp, or other liability protected entity.
2) Create a board of directors - include a well known VFL, maybe a media member, people the Vol community trust.
3) Raise funds from all of VN and the entire fanbase. Request $50/head. For this they will receive a ticket to win some piece of memorabilia or an NFT (really this is all for show...profits do not matter lol).
3) Contact UT with details of an NiL contract for all 85 football players.
4) Pay each player...($50 x 100,000 fans (goal) = $5mm) / 85 players = ~$60,000 guaranteed "salary" for each player, each year.
Promote UT as the school where you make $60k + COL stipend...so close to 70k hard cash...every single year. Recruits would flock here knowing they'd make 210k-350k in their 3-5 years here. May also encourage guys to stay longer and also not transfer. Yes, the "million dollar" Bryce Youngs may not be swayed...but it sure would help. And all of those 200 4-stars would sure as heck be interested.
The whole ACC thing is a moot point, but UT recruits itself and always has. You know this. We never needed the SEC tag to get good players, just as we didn't before the SEC was a hype machine, c'mon.
Agree with the rest. But the path is still going to become only harder with 2 more talented teams added.
I agree, but we haven’t been in the same page in years. Administration still has ways to go to get everyone going in the same direction. My VFL and some others already had some heated words with DW when they were in Knoxville so I am very skeptical that we can return to greatness. I am in the see it to believe it phase now.
A living room will never be the better option. There is nothing to compare with that feeling you get watching your beloved team to something great with another 100,000 screaming fanatics..it is something that touches your soul and you never forget.
I had Smokehouse 228 pork and brisket with c collards and Mac and cheese. Really good. @Enki_Amenra , @Vols4usWent to PF today and ate at the Local Goat. One of the best burgers I've ever had. I've never had a bad meal from the goat.
