Recruiting Forum Football Talk III

Just rewatched the 2016 UF and UGA game.

Those were the 2 best back to back games the Vols have played in well over 20 years.

And in both we were way behind. I forgot we were down 21-0 to Florida.

So much adversity that was overcome.

I thought we had it figured out. But we didn’t. Just some amazing talent that overcame coaching. That Hurd play in the UGA game was the end of his UT career. Sad.
Sometimes they won in spite of the coaching.

My thoughts on QB.

Im pulling for all 3. I like all 3 for their own things. I have questions about all 3.

Milton - easily wins job despite 15 less practices than the others. If you forget about HS rankings and look at the 3 side by side throwing the ball.. who looks like the 5 star NFL talent? Milton without question the release, the strength, the size, the ability to move in the pocket. He Carries himself like a pro. He had the hype at Michigan and started well until the thumb injury. Milton is the guy with best chance to go pro first if he has success. Sooner you get a guy with a big year and drafted the easier recruiting QBs yearly happens. Trust me if he gets Milton to his potential ceiling then QBs will start lining up. The questions are will he be accurate and consistent and how much of the problem was the thumb, harbaugh conflicted with what system to run and what was Milton himself.

Hooker - I liked watching him at Va Tech. Love his ability to run with ball and also can make some good throws at times. I wouldn’t be surprised if we have red zone package for him this year. Doubt see it until Pitt. Doesn’t stretch field vertically with his arm. Struggles with cold conditions due to some health thing he had going on at va tech so you have to be concerned of how he would do late in year.

Bailey- cool and calm sometimes to a fault. Can apply touch and throws catchable ball. Better mobility than people give him credit for. My issues are he never has looked like a guy since being here that you go yeah that is why he was a five star. Looks more like a solid 4 imo. Doesn’t do anything that wows you just gets the ball to the playmakers. Heavy footed and a slow release. Needs to just let it rip sometimes. Really a guy that would be smart to go the Mac Jones route. Work hard and improve and strike with avengance when his number is called. Let his mind become his strength by throwing people open and being able to read defenses instantly. Continue working on his body. He got too big in Hs to protect himself from the hits. He is making progress yearly. Covid year really hurt him but body wise I see him getting in better shape. Work in getting quicker feet and getting the ball out decisively. Still believe he can be starter here even next yr.

Solid take. Nice post

RF, my mom needs you prayers. She was hospitalized yesterday with COVID. On a vent. She got sick 2 days after getting her first vaccination. She is my hero for all she sacrificed in raising me as a single parent. I am headed back on E-leave tomorrow from SW Asia. I pray she can see, hug and kiss her grandchildren again. My girls are what she lives for. She hasn't seen them in almost 3 mo.
Praying for all, Glocker.

I’m afraid this is me right now.

If he stays healthy and plays up to his potential we’re going 9-3 or better.

I can talk myself into 9-3. This is probably one of our easiest schedules in years and Florida is not as good this year imo (lost a ton of talent). We will know how we may fair the rest of the year after the Pitt game but I think we have 10 legit winnable games this year.

But I'm taming my expectations and would be happy with 6-6 this year.

Prayers out! Sounds like a champion…we need those.

The joe Milton deep dive on the athletic has got me jacked. If Heup / Golesh / Hazle can get a fraction of this kids potential out of him he’s going to be light years ahead of every guy that’s lined up under center not named Manning (or dobbs, I guess?) for tennessee in most of our lifetimes, though his physical gifts probably surpass both of them. Sounds like the mental stuff is coming together. I’m trying not to let my imagination run away, but man… we really could have something special.

The article not so subtly references how harbaugh, an alleged qb guru, hasn’t had consistent qb play since he’s been there. lol.
He’s an absolute freak. ALL of the physical tools. Can’t wait to see what Heup can do with him. This offense fits him perfectly.

It's officially the day before the game. Based on just some of the stuff posted here lately and what everyone has been through in the last year, life has been pretty bad for lots of us. Don't know if the team will be good this year, but I really have a lot of faith they will be fun and easy to cheer for with lots of effort and character. We made it to the season, and I hope it's a good one and a much needed 3 hour weekly reprieve while everyone sorts out difficult times ✌️.

I'm not that personally invested in outcomes; too old I guess. In some ways football is predictable, not necessarily from game to game, but over the course of a season. If a team loses enough key players or gets perilously thin at a couple of position groups, it generally turns some of what should/could have been wins into losses. "Next man up" is the fans' feel-good saying, but those top players really need to mesh during the offseason and then keep that continuity during the games. Fans for some reason forget the key injuries and load all blame for the losses on the remaining players or the coaches.

Joe Burrow and his receiving corps during 2019 is a good example. They worked hard over the preceding summer, and then 9 of his top 10 pass catchers all played in either 14 or 15 games that season (Terrace Marshall 12 games). The result was probably the most effective college passing attack I've seen. Butch Jones is a good counter example. He may not have ever become a championship coach, but he had a horribly bad streak of injury luck in his last two seasons at UT and that, along with some management issues, scuttled his chances of success.
I agree with nearly everything you said here except about Butch..the injury problems in 16-17 were not just bad luck, but a product of his monumentally galactically stupidly bad management..or rather.."destruction" of the S&C program and horrible management of both the staff and roster.

A&M wanted to win. They went out and got there guy. Money was no object. Now they're one of the top teams in college football with a chance at the playoff this year if they can beat bama. TN could have done this, but didn't. Have to hope that if Heupel turns out to be the guy that we will make the same financial commitment to keep him

We did with Vitello so the assumption is we would.

Wow...my wife was just leaving to go to work and a huge bear was dragging garbage out of our dumpster so I went out and ran it off...we have known it was doing this occasionally for several months, and we have seen his tracks in the mud where we had a new septic system put in a few months ago after a rain, but this is the first time we caught him doing it. It is one of the biggest black bears I have ever seen 😳😳😳😳

Let the bear eat.
