The Big Lebowski is the greatest american folktale
Pulp Fiction probably the greatest screenplay ever put to paper
Boogie Nights is the perfect tragedy

Others i consider for top 10:

Raging Bull greatest cinematography
The Shining Kubrick + horror....genius
Fargo
Godfather Part 1 (part 2 meanders a bit too much but young Corleone is fantastic)
Apocalypse Now...best portrayl of a chaotic mindless war
Animal House...ground breaking at the time redefined comedy


There are others of course...I classify film mostly by director as they are the auteur. Ridley Scott, George Miller, Terrence Mallick those guys are some of the greats that just miss the top 10 list.

This is a great list. I love Goodfellas, Raging B ll, The Shining, Animal House, and The Big Lebowski. I really like Pulp Fiction, but as I mentioned before, I think Reservoir Dogs is better.

Reservoir Dogs,while amazing is a bachelors degree whereas Pulp is a phd. So much more complex and the non linear story telling influenced dozens of movies.

agreed. PF is/was one of the best movies i've ever seen.
