What are you talking about. Play action would help our OL because it will force the QB to get rid of the ball quicker. Verticals were all we ran (or at least all JG threw) last year.

What? Why would play action get the ball it quicker it takes longer for those plays to develop. Chaney also like to run a lot of nines and deep comebacks which are slow developing routes.

And our offense was god awful last year so idk why you would want to do anything we did last year offensively.

It’s personal preference. I think chandler is the only true play maker at RB.

I noted that I’m counting Taylor with DL. So when you look at our returning LBs i don’t really care about tackle totals Bc those just coincide with play time. They were awful in coverage and none showed to be effective blitzers. So it wouldn’t surprise me to see both freshman starting.

Won't argue that they were bad in coverage. 4 of our top 6 in TFL & Sacks were LBs though, but if you count Taylor as a DL then it's only 3 of the 6 I guess. Who knows though, all speculation and assumption until they show up on Saturday.

I think the LB group will be borderline elite next season, this year I am hoping to see big strides and better health.

Yea but we only had 25 sacks last year and Taylor had 8 of them. That’s really poor production.

Obviously our freshman could help our backers tremendously but i haven’t seen them yet so who knows. Hoping to get down to one of the scrimmages before the OW game

Boy I hope you're right, St. Mary's knocking off Nova and upsetting Purdue would be oh so sweet. I also think Iowa could knock off the Bearcats, amazed people seem to think they'll just cruise by the Hawkeyes. Giving Cincinnati too much credit for beating Houston in the AAC championship game.

Good point on Iowa and Cinci, but Cinci is well coached, and it will basically be home games for them.

Interesting take on RBs & LBs... What's "thin at RB" we've got 4 potential starters in Chandler, Jordan, Fils-aime, and Banks...then you've got Gray and Fant (who knows how good he can be) as depth guys, although I really hope we can RS Gray).

We legit return every one at LB except Sapp & Kongbo, which both never really emerged as world beaters. Bituli lead the team in tackles, DK Jr. was 5th, Ignont was 7th, and Taylor was 10th.

I may be picking nits here, but

Jordan wouldn't be in the two deep for the top half of the SEC. CFA has been moved around so much, that to this point he's only been a wrinkle player for us on O (hopefully that changes this year). And we all know about Banks and his fumbles.

We have Ty, and a smorgasbord behind him.

I mean potential starters for us...but I don't disagree, at this point it appears we've got 3 SEC starters at RB (Ty, Banks, Gray) and two of them are unproven still.

I think we have some guys that *could* be good, Savion being one of them

I hope I don't get disappointed, but I am 100% in love with Simmons. I think he will set a different tone for the defense once he's on campus. The fact he's been up here to watch practice also speaks volumes about him I believe. Cause seeing the kid he's a big frame and will carry 300+ easy. A few other guys that get lost/forgotten that are still coming on campus:

Darel Middleton (6'7" 300lbs 3 star DT) again that's a big body we need for depth
Aaron Beasley (6'1" 210lbs 3 star ATH) the way he's been talked about by staff he could be the real deal and he's got great size for the secondary
Melvin McBride (6'3" 312lbs 3/4 star OG) most likely a guard, but he's already got the size to play interior line
Jackson Lampley (6'4" 300lbs 4 star OG) his coaches in HS said the day he steps on campus he'll be one of the strongest guys in the weight room, great depth and size

If Anthony Harris gets qualified and can join the team he's a top 250 national S high 4 star who will also compete for playing time.

Getting amped up for football though either way, I can't wait for the O&W game! Hoping to bring the kiddo and show up early for some meet and greet.

Simmons:

Evaluation

Massive nose guard who looks all of the 350 pounds he’s listed at. An absolute load to try and move around in the middle of a defensive line. Should be able to take on a double team, hold his ground and will be very tough to handle in one-on-one situations because of his raw power. Isn’t just big, has good first step quickness and can beat an opposing guard/center right at the snap. Moves well laterally, can change direction, uses his hands well and can finish off a play. Plays with toughness and physicality and is almost impossible to slow down once he gets moving up the field. is a devastating run blocker as an offensive lineman as well but will play on the defensive side of the ball in college and has the physical tools to be an impact player early in his college career. Projects as a impact upper tier Power 5 starter and future late-round NFL draft pick.
Athletic Background
- Named 2018 Defensive MVP for Tennessee's Region 5-3A
- Won state titles in the shot put (49-10.5) and discus (146-8) at TSSAA Small Class Track & Field Championships as a junior

i honestly think not having DKjr may be addition by subtraction this season. he was not good last year in any of the stuff you mentioned above....

but yeah, getting the young guys up to par is big. and that includes JJP.
