Back then the idea of Tennessee being anything but, at the very least, "good" was still unusual. We had one bad season and it was a "long time" since we had anything to cheer about. We had also stomped a mudhole in UGA the last time they were at Neyland in 2007 and blasted them in Athens the year before, so it wasn't like they had some streak going against us.

The optimism of the 2009 season was something to behold. I know Kiffin had plenty of detractors even back then, but it was hard to not feel like we had just leveled the playing field against UF/Meyer and Bama/Saban, especially once he got his guys to fill out the roster. Plus fans weren't as jaded and BVS wasn't nearly as pronounced as it is now. It was a fun season but there were plenty of red flags concerning Kiffin's coaching ability, too.

Yeah - agree with all that. Back then, I still thought of UGA as a team we should beat on a regular basis. Florida was the only team that truly scared me year in and year out. It's funny how times change.

Can't wait till we can string together some consistent winning seasons and put these doldrums behind us. But honestly, and this isn't intended as a negavol BVS knock, I think we'll look more like modern day Auburn than Alabama once we're "back." Talented and good enough to make a run at the college football playoff every few years, with some ups and downs and fan complaining along the way. I'll take that over getting worked by Vanderbilt every November, though, that's for sure...

lol I was working in the backyard this morning till it just got too damn hot and since my family is out of town and my backyard is private, I did the only reasonable thing: I stripped down nekkid and walked right into the pool. And it was glorious.

The pool, that is.
