Charlotte (N.C.) Charlotte Christian School standout EDGE
Bryce Young took in another visit to Tennessee on Saturday. Following the outing, he discussed the trip with Volquest.
“It was great,” Young said. “Walked in, and the facilities wowed me. I was impressed and my mom was impressed. Coach Ekeler said all of the student-athletes use that facility at some point during the day, so all of the athletes are together. That shows the community for the athletic life. I had great conversations with Coach Heup and Coach Garner. It was a great day.”
Young had previously visited for a gameday, but knowing he would get more one-on-one time with the staff, he used the visit to find the answer to some key questions in this process.
“How this school could develop me,” Young said of what he was looking for coming into the trip. “If I can see myself playing here and succeeding and getting the most. I did (get the answers). I learned that Coach Heup is a coach that is going to tell me the hard things I need to know and grow and be the best player I can be.”
During his time with the staff, the message was clear and to the point.
“How they are building a program,” Young said on what the conversations centered on. “This was their second year here with the Dline, so they are looking for guys that can help build a championship team. This is a great opportunity for me to have a chance to be a part of that.”
Young does not have a current decision timeline in mind, and he isn’t ready to say which programs are standing out, but he does plan to return to Tennessee for another visit in the Spring.
As Young navigates the process, he does know what he is looking for in a school.
I am looking for a school that is going to develop me as a player to go to the NFL,” Young said. “But also, when football ends, because it has to end sometime, I am going to get the best education I can out of it that is going to set me up for life.”
The 6-4, 215-pound prospect is currently rated as a four-star recruit. On3 ranks Young as the 103rd overall prospect, 11th-best EDGE, and second-best player in the 2024.
Young is the son of former San Francisco 49ers great and Hall of Famer, Bryant Young.
