That fails to consider very important variables. The Barnes Haters would have to be open-minded, fair, rational, and intelligent. There was enough data prior to the tournament, nothing aside from a national title would change their minds. Some would still hate Barnes - we watched them shift the goalposts all season and during the tournament.

"He won't get out of the first round." "He won't make the second weekend." *after proven wrong* "If they beat Duke and make the Sweet 16 I'll be impressed." "They're playing a mid-major so if he doesn't win he's a failure." "He can't make the Elite 8."

If we'd won it would've been something else. "No Final Four." "Should've beat K State but he didn't take a timeout with 10 left in the first half or sub X on at the right moment therefore coaching failure." "He lost to a garbage mid-major in the Final Four he had the easiest matchup what a failure." Write your own "He's a failure because ...." script for the title game.

One of the best men in coaching. Consistently top-ranked teams. Future Hall of Fame coach. They'll never be happy with him if they're not appreciative now.
"Open-minded, fair, rational, and intelligent". Barnes Haters are all but 4 of those things.

I've totally given up trying to understand college baseball and basketball (yes football is still quite predictable).

Out of the top 8 teams in basketball, only 1 remains and it's a 2-seed.

We have the greatest season in college baseball history and 23-loss Ole Miss somehow wins it all.

Such a total crapshoot. More reason to keep any coach that can get you into the lottery to begin with. Then just hold onto your horses after that. Everything flies out the window with 18-22 YOs and single-loss (basketball) or double-loss (baseball) eliminations after that.

I don’t know if that’s accurate especially in basketball…. There aren’t any really superior teams in college basketball so you knew it would be more random… Looking back at past final fours….. you have to go all the way back to 2014 to find a 1-2 seed that didn’t win it all. Typically… the final four has been made up top 1-4 seeds except one outlier that made it some years.

College baseball tends to be a tad more random but still the champion tends to be one of the teams that you would expect to win it…. Even Ole Miss who struggled some during the regular season was considered one of the most talented teams in the country… Baseball is a a beautiful sport bc recruiting is more challenging. It allows a team like Coastal Carolina to win a championship
