We accept federal funds as well and have to report it to government agencies…. We don’t, however, have to report our findings through the media…. You can typically find out what red flags are against the type of business I work with but not have access to the investigation in its entirety. Would Northwestern risk their funding over this situation?

It's different for unis because you also have things like the Clery Act and Title 9 that directly dictate that unis must report and comply with certain things. That money opens the doors for the public to see how that money is being spent and whether or not laws are being complied with but there's also several laws that come into play that were passed for public universities to comply with that also effect private ones because they take state and federal money. But even with Sunshine Laws, you don't necessarily get every bit of information on an individual case regardless of whether or not the uni is public or private. Certain things can be withheld just like any other public document.

As for would they risk funding over an investigative report? Probably not. And the reason is that it's not just an issue of a state or federal grant here or there like it is with other businesses. You might be able to absorb losing a grant to a dept. or select researchers or even a one time grant and make up the funding elsewhere. The real problem for universities, especially private ones is that they rely on students taking out federal loans to pay for tuition. Only a few universities have the endowments necessary to function without federally backed student loans and Pell grants.

Harvard could do that if they truly wanted to and along with a few other Ivy League schools it has been heading towards tuition free. Right now, if your family income is 85k or below you pay nothing which probably makes it near tuition free for the majority of families in the South where the average income is below that but not so much for those living elsewhere. And because private tuition tends to be a great deal higher than your average public university, private unis are often more dependent on student loans and federally backed financial aid programs as well as federal tax credits and other types of state/federal funding.

Most unis would just redact what they could get away with redacting and spin, spin, spin because ultimately they need the money to keep coming and they need students, faculty, staff, alums, parents and the broader public to have some faith in them or they'll lose students and if the case generates enough publicity local, state, and federal lawmakers have a nasty habit of bringing pressure to bear and if pushed could force disclosure anyway. Or fire the guy and hope it goes away completely (and often that's enough). It's not a fight any university wants to fight because all they can do is lose.

So this was cool. Buddy of mine was playing in a concert tonight out in Colorado. He got to hang with Peyton beforehand, so I got a personalized greeting from Peyton. Here’s a screenshot…

Man, I really like that hat. Wonder if it comes in normal forehead sizes? 😳

Question for the docs or health nuts on here. How much magnesium should one take?

I was taking a supplement of magnesium and one for calcium. Didn't notice until about 6 months later the calcium had magnesium too, started having dizziness and disorientation a little.

Stopped taking the supplements and everything back to normal. I think I was taking 650 MG.

Anyone in the know, was that too much?

Depends on which magnesium variant it was,

@SSVol will be able to tell you quite a bit. He has looked extensively into magnesium supplements.

I tagged him in that post.

I realized that later, but at your age, you may have already forgotten why you tagged him. 😁

I could have bought a Yugo with all the quarters I spent……

Nintendo made me a lifelong video game addict. But at least gaming has some benefits (assuming you don't lose all your quarters to high prices and micro transactions). It helps with cognition and memory and has even been a benefit for surgeons and those in other professions. And has been showing a lot of promise in helping mental decline in patients with dementia.... which brings me to a question for those of you that have a Nintendo Switch....

Most of y'all know our struggles with the other half's health and lately I've been giving a lot of thought to getting him a Nintendo Switch to help improve his cognition and memory. (Seriously, 30 mins a day for two weeks showed gains for older people with dementia so working from that idea, I looked it up for hepatic encephalopathy and studies show that it would help with that). So my question (er questions) are... 1. How durable is the Switch in handheld mode? and 2. Where can I get one cheap? (I don't want to get the handheld only because I want to keep hooking it up to something else an option). 3. Any games you'd recommend for a guy who once loved playing Pokemon? The important thing is to engage his brain but I think the more fun it is the more likely it is he'll keep doing it.

I just read Doc. ;)

I take magnesium glycinate (primary source of 400mg of elemental Mg) and magnesium chloride (helps with prostate issues). Not sure how I feel about supplementing calcium, given how much we tend to get and how destructive it is when in excess.

That sounds logical except A&M, LSU, and Miss State were also military schools right?
Idk if the schools were at some point. It's the players' background cultures though coming together now to form the subculture away from the coaches.

And don't lump A&M in with anyone else. They are their own cult!

Reading through the CJH hire threads it's very clear that UCF fans were not a good source of info. I think that would apply to all fan bases when a coach is leaving.

We’re probably an excellent source of information on pruitt, dooley and butch.
Not so much on kiffin as too many fell for his frat boyish bullshiit and still think he’s a good coach. He lost me when he publicly declared that he intended to make Tennessee the usc of the East.

CJH has shown us what a good guy who is also a great coach looks like.

Eventually, I have hope that the kiffinites will realize what he actually is and that we’re much better off without him. I’m an eternal optimist, so this is not realistic.

However, Tennessee’s final record in football this season will be!

15-0 🤠

To all my grillers, looking at getting either a Green Egg or Kamado Joe. Anyone have any experience with both or either one. Any preferences or advice?

Except for the name and color of the grill, they are very similar. Komodo Joe is becoming as pricey as the Egg. Buy whichever one is the best price and you won’t be disappointed.
