I was obviously talking about the defense...and the OL played great at times and iffy at others...mostly great once they settled on a certain group. Was supposed to be a drop-off because of Cooper Mays..."concern", some said. We went for 500 and 49 without him, and that's with a dropped 70 yard touchdown.
If injuries "pile up", anyone in the country would have an issue.
I agree, but make no mistake our offense is going to have a bunch of good days. We gonna be dangerous. We have great balance in the running and passing game. We will continue to get more in sync as we go. But you are correct our D is going to have a very good year I believe. You see the player development and growth, especially at the DL and LB. But really the secondary didn’t play bad overall, they almost had a few picks despite Virginia not being able to throw much. I would like to see our DB’s look for the ball more but it’s just game 1 and no need to overreact there yet. Same with the kicking game, while kicking was not good today and will have to be better. I do think first game jitters or maybe just being a little anxious was the problem. The punter did have 1 good punt that nearly put them at the goal line. But I do expect and hope to see some improvement there in game 2. I do see the potential there. Kickoffs weren’t great either. We have to do better there but no time to panic, I think we will be fine there. GBOI'm pumped about defense. Our offense doesn't have to be as good as last year if our defense is really as good as they looked today.
