I don't think it matters. I thought the same thing, but apparently it can continue to advance if you're holding it out of bounds.

Edit it makes sense, because if you hold it out of bounds and keep running for ten yards, they don't spot it where you stayed holding it out of bounds.

When my mother-in-law was alive, at times she wouldn't know who her own children were. They thought maybe it was early dementia but every time it turned out to be a UTI. It was crazy but when she had a UTI, it really messed with her mind.
