Just terrible news. So sad to lose such a great coach and personally of the game.

Really tough situation for everyone. Obviously, his family is hit the hardest, but you know this hits his players, coaches, university and the entire Starkville community. Prayers for everyone. It just really sucks.

Two. Muller (who’s been “almost there” forever) and Freddy Tarnock…#1 and #6 ranked prospects respectively. Was excited about Tarnock’s potential, but more than worth it to have a Gold Glove with a cannon behind the plate and one of the better pitcher handlers…that’ll pay huge dividends. The lefty, Yeager they sent to Milwaukee wasn’t highly regarded and nowhere close to help the club. AA is taking some farm risks because the penalties on signing international players due to Coppolella went off the books. We can replenish young talent that much faster with our scouting.

Please don't take this the wrong way because I may not say it the right way.

You guys are fortunate to have a dad to miss. My parents divorced while I was too young to know my dad. I spent a couple summers with him when I was young. That's it. He has passed now and I didn't know him well enough to miss him.

That was the first thing I told my sister after my dad passed 13 years ago. All I could think was how grateful we were to even have a dad...a present dad...a good dad...a loving dad...a dad that actually cared.

Too many people can't even say most of that, so we should all count are blessings before we cry "woe is me".

As the great Dr Seuss said, don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened. Everything is transient and attachment is what causes the suffering. Have to learn to let go of what was never forever.

Salinas was a top 20 braves prospect who had an insane SO ratio

Murphy is one of the best defensive catchers in the league no doubt. But he’s 4 years older than Contreras and has a worse bat. Catcher wasn’t a position of need. Swap out William for TDA and I’d like the trade

Beard has a wife and 3 daughters. What on earth happened that resulted in that.

The absolute best possible scenario here is that he was protected his children from an extended family member. But that seems unlikely...

This does sound pretty bad. Without getting into too much detail I will admit to a shortcoming that I am not proud of. There have been a couple of times in my life where the woman I loved "betrayed" me and I found out about it. I could never imagine hitting a woman but I will admit with shame that my first instinct on those two occasions was to grab by the throat and in both cases I came to my senses within a split second and immediately let go. Again, it was shameful and pathetic on my part but it wasn't premeditated....it was a reaction to being taken advantage of by someone I was in love with and it was instinctual and I immediately stopped.

I don't want to sound like I am justifying it because there is no justification. Just pointing out how a usually good man who will defend women or people who can't defend themselves can find himself letting hurt emotions get the better of him. The Beard situation makes me wonder if it is similar though it does sound like he wasn't restraining himself. Apologies to any ladies on VN who have been through anything like this....it's not easy to admit and I would seriously hurt someone for doing it to my daughter even for 1 second. The shame of those two moments hurts much more than the situations that prompted the loss of control.

Yeah but other than Bru we really didn’t land a difference maker in the portal last year. We need to do better
