Crowder isn't much worse than our others. He just struggles in space. He's also a better pass protector than a run blocker and that doesn't show up on those plays.

I don't think anyone is taking a shot at him. But he has hurt us some in the run game this year. You can't really get around that. I know he does a lot of good things, and I appreciate his effort. But he's struggling at times.

There were several other mentions throughout the website. I didn't intend to come down as harshly as some apparently think I did. Just ironic that his name kept coming up as the reason a play fell apart throughout the different articles. I don't think Crowder has been the worst OL, just pointing out the irony that his name kept coming up.

The two guys to the right of him have been much worse if we're talking about my opinion on the matter.

I just did a quick find on "center" and "crowder." I did find one more instance where Crowder missed a block in space, but I also found two instances where he blocked well.

That may sound weird, but it didn't take long. You had me genuinely curious about it. :good!:

I'd be curious to know how each lineman is grading. There are times where the TEs aren't making their play as well.

I will say that of the three negative plays mentioned with Crowder, two of them were blocks in space.

Our tight ends are struggling to block. I think that's a big reason Ellis has been getting more playing time recently.

On the other hand, our receivers are miles ahead of where they were last year as blockers.

Consistency, gentlemen. It is a beautiful thing. I am hoping that our OLine will be better next year with another year in the weight room and conditioning. This play time has to be very valuable for their development.

LOL you're a little obsessive about this. Someone posted a link, I scanned a couple posts at 1 am while stopped at a rest stop after 9 hours of driving, and casually noted the pattern I saw where Crowder was mentioned several times as missing blocks. It was funny to me. apologies for all the hurt feelings of people who apparently took offense.

Agreed. Hopefully this PT & experience is very valuable in their development and growth as players. UT desperately needs improved O-Line play this season and for the future.

At this point, the only thing UT's current OL is consistent at is whiffing blocks & giving up sacks.

Hasn't Ellis been listed second string since the beginning of the season?

When everyone gets a decent block, good things happen.

Yes, but he's not really seen much playing time till the last 3 games.

Downs hasn't hardly played since he caught that TD early on. After that, it was Helm and Wolf getting snaps. Now it's a rotation of Wolf, Ellis, and Helm.

At no point was I offended. I just wanted clarification. I said it might sound like more work than it was. I just know how the usual Internet hyperbole can warp things a bit. Thus, hitUM took your post a bit hard.

Sorry to get in the middle of the non-existent quarrel.

Good point, I've noticed Wolf and Helm more consistently this season with Ellis more lately. This is to my meager recollection. You're right, I haven't noticed much of Downs this season.

Hurd 100, Dobbs 75, Pearson 50. Mike Davis 100. I think Davis gets the most individually but Vols outrush Cocks by a good margin. Something tells me Pearson gets loose atleast once.

Np. I'd do the hat tip thing but I don't know how.

I briefly met Crowder's dad before a game once at a parking lot. Nice guy. Meeting him in person reminded me how tough it must be for parents to have their kids held up high or slammed so low. Big time D1 football is a level of scrutiny I certainly have never known. Even former letterman from past decades likely can't relate to the kind of scrutiny that today's technology and press allows.

Yeah, he is a good guy. The whole family is nice. Not best friends are anything but know them a little bit myself. Have been in their home a few times. But The player Crowder has work to do is the bottom line. He snaps great and has not been injured which is key. I am not sure we have a backup that can consistently do that. Be thankful for what we have, and hope his blocking improves. The players all work hard and I am sure from what I know of the family that he is working his tail off to improve every day.

Good post.

None of them are SEC stars yet. Crowder has missed no starts, no snaps, pass blocks well. In his first season. Give him at least that. He will be better next season.

Serious question: How much have the players on this OLine played before this season? I do not remember any of them getting any type of significant playing time in these past few years. Maybe a snap or two here or there in relief efforts for our last OLine (and probably some 4th quarter action against an FCS opponent). Honestly, I would chalk a lot of their development up to not playing in games consistently. I fully believe this OLine will be better next year including Crowder. Game time experience is very key to the development of a player. Practice can only do so much for development.

I know that when I played rugby (for the small amount I was able to) my biggest teaching times were the games themselves.
