Talk inside the Tennessee athletic department has led some to believe that the Vols have made a pitch to Gruden, the Monday Night Football color analyst and former Super Bowl winning head coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Sources have also said that the Vols have given Gruden a deadline on making a decision. If the decision isn’t in Tennessee’s favor, Currie could turn his attention to Mississippi State’s Dan Mullen.

Mullen, we reported on Wednesday, is believed to have reached out to the Vols multiple times to express his interest in the opening.


GoVols247 has also been told that some believe it could come down to Gruden, who was fired by the Bucs in 2008 and has been out of coaching ever since, choosing between Tennessee and at least two NFL opportunities.

Multiple former players took to social media Wednesday to tease that big news could be on the way, but specifics were never offered.

Translation of the bolded bit: Jimmy Sexton is desperately trying to get a piece of the rumored $10M/year UT is offering Gruden.

This is kind of hilarious to watch. I feel bad for him. He's truly stuck in a no-win situation right now. If they drag it out until Nov. 28, he's going to lose his mind.

Yesterday was the deadline. this is not the start of negotiating, this is the end. This is where ink hits paper. You don't fly 3 planes filled with big boosters, John Currie, and other staff members out to meet Jon Gruden face to face to start negotiating. I am sure the media will try to pitch it as though the negotiations have just started to keep everything under the wraps, but I don't buy it. If nothing comes out today that Jon Gruden refused the offer, then I firmly believe Jon Gruden is the next head football coach of Tennessee at this very moment and its just a matter of time till it is announced. could be as early as Sunday could be after the Vandy game. we will have to wait and see. It truly is exciting times we are in. JMO

He either knows Gruden is coming and is trolling everyone or he doesn't have a clue.

Hahahaha Currie lost Hubbs in Chicago. Wallace said a private jet picked someone up in Chicago and then went to Nashville. Currie is a ghost!!!!!

I don’t think it’s terrible that Hubbs is waiting to confirm before he rolls with something.. People like Bassillio can report half-baked rumors. Hubbs has a good reputation, people like me take a believe it when I see it or hear it from Hubbs, and this is why.

If Currie comes out and says we’re all crazy, Hubbs looks better.

It's not like Brice is some cut rate hack! He got a bad rep from that article that raked Butch over the coals in the off-season. Everyone said it was a low blow at the time. But looking back he was 100% correct. Brice is working to gain his credibility back to everyone which is why I think he's breaking this. It's even more shocking he teamed up with Ramey on this one. Definitely adds some traction.

Brice didn't even write the article. Haney did. I'm still not sure/can't remember what Brice did to get blacklisted or fired from 247. Did he quit?
