People dont know what Mullen will do here. He could be James Franklin and just needed a new address because he no doubt has maxed out what he can do there.
Or he could be a guy who wins 9 games no matter where hes at.
Nobody knows which one.
People acting like they know he will suck here dont really know that. They just want the splash and he aint it. People want splash or they want the guy who just got started coaching with an unknown ceiling.
I agree that nobody knows for certain.
But in a wide open search, there is absolutely nothing wrong with people being disappointed when their hopeful criteria doesn't materialize.
Here is the hopes starting from the top.
1. Super bowl winner - Extremely unlikely/borderline crazy but who wouldn't want that.
2. National Champion coach - Extremely rare but hey, we can dream.
3.Another drop down to Conference champion. Rare for P-5 moves but does happen.
4. Drop down again to division champion. Not a knockout by any means but at least has won something.
5. Then we get to the solid hire/Mullen category. My OPINION, many wins and should win the east. No conference championship and no shot at an NC. Once again, jmo.
Then there are tons worse than Mullen etc. and I would take Mullen over those other names all day.
If he is hired, I will fully support him unless or until he doesn't deserve to be. But I'm not going to pretend that his arrival will have me telling other teams "watch out", which I believe most fans would like to be able to do again.
