Either win 10 regular season, lose in ATL, and then lose against a top-tier team in a bowl game

Or win 9 regular season, lose in ATL, and then win a bowl game vs another Purple Vandy caliber opponent

Sure there are benefits to it and I would take the win against South Carolina and a playoff ranking every time. Yes, it could only help with recruits. I'm just saying I'm not crushed after what's happened today in the shakeup of the top because our end result of having to play Bama again and not making it doesn't change either way.

The loss to South Carolina sucked, but let's be honest here, being in the hunt for the playoff would just mean we had a shiny number next to our name. At this point in the season, we don't have the players/depth to compete with the top teams. The season and playoff hopes likely end the same way even if we had beaten the gamecocks, which is a spanking by Bama in Atl. Even with the upsets today, I don't think we should bemoan the South Carolina loss more so than we already have. JMO.

I'd be thrilled to have that shiny number next to our name. After what we've been through for the past decade, it would be amazing to be a Top 10 or Top 15 team. And I want the Vols to make it to ATL, even if it means playing the #1 team in the country twice in one season. The seniors deserve that shot.
