Can someone give the tl;dr version of that story? I never really understood what Crowder 5 meant.

Friend of the crowder family on here defended crowder's playing ability when some on here bashed him. I believe that person went a while without posting and the "Crowder 5" were blamed for his "disappearance". That's the short version.

I actually coined the term "Crowder 5". All stemmed from the M Crowder incident.

EZ made some comments alluding to what actually went down if I recall. A relative / family friend made a comment that there were some guys out looking for him lol...

I don't remember all the details, but that was the general gist if I remember correctly.

The Crowder 5 stuff started off before the 2015 season when some posters here were hoping Thomas would get the nod over Crowder because Crowder had the much lower ceiling. A close family friend of Mack's then threatened Mockingvol saying that he and 5 of his boys were gonna find him and hurt him. Being so ridiculous and all, it became somewhat of a meme around here.


This was all before the Butch/punch drama. The Crowder crowd (SteelerVol chief among them) have pretty much disappeared since Thomas showed himself to be clearly better than Crowder and since Crowder was arrested in a sting for trying to bang 16 year old in Florida.

Leaving the Crowder 5 behind - although I am slightly surprised MV gave his location out this soon.

Butch & staff doing work on recruiting. It's going to be an excellent class if I am reading things correctly. It really is a relief not to have any concerns about who commits and signs any more. I believe Team 120 will at least make the SECCG, which will eliminate the winning big games question mark. In my mind now it is all about whether the offensive scheme/play calling is good enough to win the NC and if Butch will make good decisions during games. I really can't say I am all that concerned about those points now that Shoop has arrived. Great defense wins it all as the Broncos proved.

Prediction: Zach Azzani will redeem himself this year.

"Tennessee's pickup of Maleik Gray over the weekend was huge not just because Gray is a Top100 prospect with 4.5 speed but also because of the momentum it generates for the Vols for in-state recruiting. I'm hearing that Tennessee could be poised to land multiple other in-state prospects in the coming days.

Princeton Fant has long been considered a Tennessee lean and the Lavergne High School receiver may be close to finally popping after his close friend and teammate beat him to the punch over the weekend. My Crystal Ball remains Tennessee for Fant.

Tennessee was the first major program to offer Theo Jackson and I expect that to pay off in the near future. The Vols have been trending steadily up for the long defensive back and I've made my Crystal Ball pick for Jackson to Tennessee and think it could happen soon.

Tennessee has also made Savannah (Tenn.) Hardin County two-way player Latrell Bumphus a priority and I think that is going to pay off in the near future as well. I've made my Crystal Ball prediction for Bumphus to Tennessee.

While Tennessee has always been considered a leader for the guys above, Nashville's Ty Chandler out of MBA hasn't always presented the same kind of confidence. I made an initial Crystal Ball pick for Chandler to follow his father to Ole Miss in August of 2014, not quite two years later, I've changed my prediction for Chandler, picking him to Tennessee. I don't think Tennessee is out of the woods on that one yet and I've heard Georgia and Auburn both are in good shape as well but the arrow is pointing firmly in the 'up' position next to Tennessee with the U.S. Army All-American Bowl running back."

Perhaps the thing I love about CBJ the most is that I no longer spend hours a week following recruiting stressing over every detail. It is a weird paradox, but the more confident I am the less I follow recruiting.

Agreed. Honestly, I think the 2016 class will be the worst Butch pulls in for a long time, and it was still pretty good. He had a tough sell with it. No early playing time due to the roster being loaded with freshmen and sophomores, a couple of blown wins, and only one month with a 9-4 record/promising program trajectory to tout on the trail.

With 2017, he can sell recruits on playing early due to mass NFL departures this season/next season and (hopefully) a great 2016 season.
