Youth football question for y'all?

My son plays 9-10 league, and they play their games on Sunday at 2p. His coach scheduled a scrimmage against a 11-12 team for Saturday afternoon at 330!! Granted, their kids and have plenty of energy, I don't like the idea of even scrimmaging the day before a game, let alone playing up an age group!! Even tho their young, they go all out! They normally practice Saturday morning, which is not much better, but not as demanding as a scrimmage.
Nonetheless, I told his coach he wouldn't be there, not bc I thought it was a bad idea, bt bc we had a schedule conflict. I'm mr momming it this weekend, wife is out of town, and my other son has soccer games at the same time. Plus, the fb scrimmage is about an hour drive out of town.

What do y'all think, stupid, or no biggie...they're kids???

Understandable in your situation. No big deal missing a scrimmage in this scenario. If it were closer, then he could ride with a teammate...
Would speak to the football coach, not text or email...
Jmo.

We scrimmage up all the time, bc, quite honestly, it's the only way for our squad to get some quality competition. It's the Saturday afternoon part that pissed me off.

As far as playing up tho, one of boys on the team fractured his T5 and T6 by getting blindsided by a big 12 yo in a scrimmage. He's done for the season due to a scrimmage.😡

I think you made the right call as far as scrimmage. I keep reading your sentence about one of kids on team fracturing T5and 6. I don't have younger kids anymore but I don't know if I could expose them to that kind of potential physical damage. Particularly at 9-10 years old. Is it common now for kids that age to play against older and more physically developed kids?

Now Basilio is saying Kirkland has damage to his ankle and probably won't be back until November if then. Low is saying out 3-4 weeks and of course our coach made it sound like a minor injury and said week to week. Who's right? Why would Butch purposely give hope to us fans that the injury isn't as bad as it appeared? Why not be truthful and say he's out for a period of time? Is he trying to "fool" our opponents into game planning for him? This isn't just some player on the team- it's the most important player on defense. I just don't get his fake injury reports. Just tell the truth and while you're at it, find the best possible replacement in the meantime. Hoping that Basilio is way off but he was the one who broke the Hall injury if I remember correctly. Anyone else talking about this?

vollady, please take a Xanax.

Thanks,

Volnation

Talking about it? Yes. Frantically trying to find someone to help make us feel better about it? No.

I don't care what CBJ says. Kirkland will be back when he's ready to play. Nothing I can do about it.

I didn't realize that Nick Fitzgerald had 195 yards rushing vs South Carolina. Good grief South Carolina is bad.

Basilio is the National Inquirer of UT Media

Basilio deciding what storyline to go with:

I am not a doctor, but the very definition of a sprain can be slight ligament tear. A sprain can be tougher to heal than a simple break. Our resident freak out continues doing his job. While I don't believe Butch is hiding anything, you also have to remember these are student athletes. I am sure athletes are required to sign a waiver allowing the school to release a medical diagnosis, but it doesn't mean that it has to be done. Not only is there a reason for competitive purposes, but I am sure coaches don't always care to release every detail about a player's health status.

Seems to be for us, I guess it would depend on the program. We are actually 3-0 in scrimmages vs 11-12 yo teams, we have the best program in the county tho. So, we do it for the competition. I agree 100% with the size and development differences tho, and the last thing anyone wants is someone to get hurt, which has already happened.

Ligaments are no joke. I said this earlier but I had a similar injury about 11 months ago (Mine was non-contact and seems to be a little worse than what DK is dealing with)

Had surgery to fix the broken leg/ankle and the bones were healed within about 2-3 months. Ligaments sheath still gives me problems to this day if I try to run or exert force on it.

That's why I've said from the start that, after watching the replay, it seemed like an injury that would keep him out an extended period of time unless that dude just has crazy flexible ankles. That's JMO from previous experience though.

After seeing the injury, I don't know how anyone thought Kirk would be back that soon. If he misses most of the year I hope they medical RS him

I took my son to last year's North Texas game. I'm hoping we see more oomph out of the offense when we are there tomorrow.

Anyone know where that thread about "Last Chance U" was? I finally got around to watching it, and finished it last night.

Was Ollie and the other DT in the game for Nicholls against UGA?

Ha! Funny story Prof.

But it is probably a garter snake by your description. How long was it? If longer than a foot it could be a young black rat snake. They'll come inside if their food is inside and they'll eat bugs and mice so it isn't really a bad thing to have them every once in a while. The way to get them out is to kill their food and they'll leave. Maybe time to call an exterminator.

Thanks for the id on that. I figured it might be a garter snake but I didn't see stripes on it but you know I ran away so fast I didn't really get a good look at him. When it's crawling up your leg you have a tendency to forget logic. LOL. He seemed too small to be super dangerous and didn't seem bothered at all by the human it was using as a tree branch taking off like my hair was on fire.
