I know you guys want to look at the bright side and all that, but it is absolutely valid to look at star averages in August. Sure, CBJ has a strong history with getting in on prospects before they blow up. We can probably assume that a few of our currently committed players are underrated and will end up at solid rankings after their senior seasons. Sure, we will probably gitshirt a fair number of the players that fail to look better during their senior years. That gives me some confidence that we can improve significantly later in the cycle. But there are two main reasons why this is a very bad start for us:
1. Gitshirting has a cost. It's still a net win to replace a player with someone better, but there is a long term cost involved that is usually only avoided because of how quickly coaching changes happen or because it was done by someone like Saban who just has such a great track record that recruits look past it.
2. Even if CBJ is well above average in evaluation AND we gitshirt 5-10 current commits, we are behind the teams that we need to beat by a significant margin. There is probably not much hope of catching them at this point.
Some on this board have invented this fantasy that if we win, we will magically have a top 5 class. That just isn't going to happen. Squeezing into the top 10 is about our best case scenario as of now, and that's a bad spot to be in when it's only August.
