So this was a math question my 6th grader had on a homework review quiz for EOG'S coming up...
Anyone want to give it a try? Lol

How many rows?
You noticed that huh? Apparently whoever made the test didn't see that as important.

There is an answer. It is from an on line test so we finally figured it out.

But I'm curious if anyone comes up with it.

Cause it makes no sense.

Welcome to education. And guess what's even better. That test is where all the money goes. That and people to decide which test (they're all the same) the school should take.

31 is my guess
Well... That's ACTUALLY correct for sane people. It can't be anything but that.

But according to the genius that wrote the rest...

It's 5. They're just looking for the lowest common denominator. Freaking stupid.

But but that would be the smallest not greatest
Exactly. The kid worked on it for a half hour and was damn near tears trying to figure it out. Finally I just said "enter this..". And it took it. I was floored.

Somebody botched the wording there. Needs to include something about only boys or girls can be in each row, then it makes sense. Seems they should have people test the test!

Funny thing is the rest of the test, I told her to ignore "the question" except for key words greatest it least... Abd just do the math from there.

No issues after that.

Lol

I got 5 because that is the highest number that will evenly divide into both 75 and 80. Not sure how you came up with 31.

"Girls and boys" I assumed they would both be in the same theater so I combined nthe numbers to get 155. Divide that by 3 and you get 31
Oh, I gotcha. I just assumed they would be segregated since they were listed separately. The question left a lot to interpretation.

yeah, that was the point. it specifically said "girls and boys"...5 being the #, that's 15 boys and 16 girlse (or vice versa, can't remember which was 75 or 80)...for 31 total per row.

it was just a dumb way to ask the question.....and not a realistic situation at all. i'm all for getting these kids to "think".

but at least make it about something that has some sense to it.....

But they have to think the "correct way"

One extra word would have made all the difference: "...arrange 75 girls and 80 boys into even rows."
