Probably more stupid than brave. Just celebrated 15 in March. Still learning but what I have learned is to put God first, my wife second, then my children, then me. It works really well, because my wife puts God first and me second. It would be hard if she didn't.

Ephesians 5:25: “For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her."

Christ did not just give up His life for the church. He was brutally tortured and killed in the most painful and agonizing way possible. That is not just a bible story. That is a documented historical fact. Whether you believe in the resurrection or not, the fact that an innocent man willingly went through that for His people is a lesson in ultimate sacrifice.

Congrats on 34 years!

Putting our mates before God is one of the biggest risks to marriage. It's idolatry, and God curses idols. It's hard enough to get it right..we don't need it cursed as well. But when you get the order right, it's much easier. Not Nicholas Sparks easy, but manageable. ;)

We went through an atheist marriage conference entitled “Finding meaning together in a meaningless cosmos.”

Had side sessions on “Relating to your spouse while knowing their consciousness is just an illusion caused by lots of synapses firing at once” and “Remember, your children are fundamentally just clumps of biological material.”
Sounds pretty similar to a lot of religious conferences, just with more honest names for each session 😂😂😂

In all seriousness though, the thing about consciousness being an illusion isn’t a mainstream atheist thought. That argument is usually made by pedantic philosophers who don’t define “illusion” exactly in the way we usually use it in our day to day lives.

Or just use the marriage conference to expand your understanding of what makes your wife tick so you can be an even better husband. Even if you don't care for the Christian aspect, there is a lot to learn about how a man should treat his wife in the bible. The relationship between Christ and the church is frequently compared to that of a husband and wife. Just saying, you can still grow as a man and husband even if you don't believe in Christianity.

/steps down off soapbox and prepares for incoming.

Brutal torture? Sounds like marriage. Haha jk.

Bruh she had me read that immediately upon dating. And the same author for men book.
Lol 😂
She know you hate this, this much? You make this sound like your marriage is slavery, although chances are it’s not. Sounds like she sees something in you that you don’t see in yourself. You obviously adore this woman of God or you wouldn’t be there. Man when you gonna sack up and put the jeans on? Either God’s a liar or He ain’t. Why not make a move, disconnect from VN for awhile and see what this stuff is about?

Yep. And what he was worried about when he prayed in the garden of Gethsemane wasn’t that brutal torture or death, it was that he knew the cup of the Father’s wrath was going to be poured out on him in full measure for our sins. He knew exactly what that meant... and in his humanity it terrified him.

Lots of people have suffered worse torture or died more painful deaths than Christ’s on the cross. But when you consider him as the second person of the Trinity condescending to become a man, lead a perfect life and yet face that torture at the hands of his own creatures, while simultaneously bearing their sin and therefore becoming on the cross the single greatest concentration of sin and evil the world has ever known so that he could face the brunt of the Father’s wrath in place of them and instead dressing them in his righteousness to present them blameless to the Father... you start to get a small glimpse of just what grace and mercy really mean.

To this day and on this very board his act is mocked, derided, condemned, dismissed. He could easily have destroyed us all. Yet he persists in love and mercy for the sake of his children, calling to himself his sheep.

Amazing grace.

Your wife wouldn't have dragged you there if there wasn't a problem or things that could be improved.

Conference may be absolute junk (it almost certainly is) but pay attention to which parts she's leaning in to.
My wife is an intellectual and likes learning/resources. She eats this stuff up. Me? I read about two sentences then I’m bored.

Amen is all I got.

You came for recruiting but you’ll stay for marital counseling and religion.

Maybe we can segue into abortion.

My literal thought process while reading this post:

"Segoo....segoy?...Oh, it's 'argue'...wait that doesn't good with the flow of the sentence....................oh it's pronounced seg-way. Aight....I'm smart."

Been to Arizona once in highschool. Flew into Phoenix and it was so hot. No humidity though which was nice. We then drove up to Flagstaff. Really enjoyed it.
Yup it’s hot as a betch right now but dry. I do think I prefer this to the humidity of the south. Flagstaff is great in the spring/summer
