I don't know what you mean by "require pieces to progress" as a reason to discount Chess and Checkers as board games, but to me, both of those games are the very definition of board games.

The object for the other 4 I mentioned requires you to get somewhere with your pieces in order to win the game. Checkers/Chess you're essentially trying to eliminate pieces from your opponent.

Ok, thanks, but that seems like a very narrow interpretation of 'board' games where you could say that games like Life and Candyland fit the definition of a board game more than Chess or Checkers. I would also say that with Chess the object of the game is actually not to eliminate pieces, but rather to capture the opponent's king; eliminating opponent's pieces is just a means to that end.

Well, it's just a personal set of requirements I set when narrowing my personal top 4 down. Nothing anyone else has to adhere to or anything.

Fair enough. For myself, unless I am playing board games with the grandkids, I prefer board games that don't depend too much on an element of luck such as rolling dice. Risk does, of course, as do more strategy-oriented games by Avalon Hill, or other game designers of that genre, but they are still designed so that dice rolls tend to favor the player with the strongest position at the time of engagement. And of course, Chess, Checkers, Carapace, and Stratego you simply rely on your skills as a player.

That was a reference to you having to provide service to a horse rectum. 🤣
I know that. My reply is a rub at @InVOLuntary being old. I would have to have a business to help elderly people, in order to provide services for him. Make sense?

Yes, I’m an equine vet, and yes, I rectal horses frequently. It’s a warm place to have your arm when it’s freezing outside though. Lol!

It's not your arm I was referencing, it's was your head.
