Recruiting Forum: Official Florida Pre-Game/Game Thread

We are such a beat down fanbase we are starting to assume the worst with everything.

Hard not to with how things continue to go against us. Hope Phil is happy with that deal that he made with Shadow Man. That dude knows how to continue ripping our hearts out, and makes it worse each and every time.

There's a few stragglers still out there.

I guess I'm straggling then. This feels odd, but I've already calmed down after this loss. That wasn't the case against Oklahoma - was pissed for the rest of the weekend after that one. Felt like Oklahoma was all about Butch shrinking from the moment and getting complacent. Felt like he went out to get it tonight but the defense just couldn't shut the door.

I'm not happy with Butch either, but I'm also not "off of the wagon" or whatever cliche you want to use. In sports in general, I believe coaches receive too much credit for success and too much blame for failure. On Calloway's GW touchdown, there were three guys in the vicinity. Did bad coaching keep those guys from making a play, or did they just not execute? Grier flipped a switch in the fourth quarter and started throwing darts - making throws he showed no ability to make earlier in the game. Did he get hot on his own merit, or did McElwain give him a big pep talk after the third quarter that inspired him?

Butch made mistakes tonight, but every coach does in literally every single game. And hindsight turns every bad play into a dumb decision. But (and I know I'm slapping a hornet's nest here) tonight I felt like it was ultimately more about players not making plays than it was about coaches failing their players.

The losses hurt a lot less when you stop supporting the coach.

Please don't get me wrong, I still am behind Butch 100%. I just have little confidence in his ability to win big here. Can he turn it around? Absolutely. In order to do that he's got to reevaluate the whole program. Many times when you lose you can go back and work on fundamentals but this team is fair
Fundamentally sound except maybe the oline. Our problems are scheme related. Is he willing to change things up? Does he have the ability to change things up. The four plays he showed today I think we've got down pretty well. If I were him, I would focus 100% on the passing game. Not the passing game that is behind the line of scrimmage
But the passing game that uses the whole field. The passing game that punishes teams when they blitz. If they do that and execute that in games, Hurd yards suddenly become easier. Dobbs will have more time to throw. Wide recipes will start producing. Defence will find themselves on their heels. If he continues with t b e same old run run pass behind the line of scrim n age, expect more of the same and his days are probably numbered. Jmho.

If you only saw four plays today, then you watched a different game than I did.

Tell me one thing: if, before the game, somebody told you that we were going to score 27 against that defense... Would you have been happy with that? Would you have expected that to be enough to win?

For me, the answer to both of those questions is yes. The offense was unorthodox, but for the most part it moved the ball. Like I've said elsewhere, Butch has never avoided the passing game at previous stops - for him to do it now tells me that there's something about this group of players that gives him no confidence in that phase of the offense. Not sure what or why, but any guess as to the reason is just that - a guess.

Totally agree that a functional passing game would have us 4-0 right now though.

Other than the trick plays and if you discount right and left, we ran single digit plays.

I'm almost crying right now. And I almost never cry. Tonight felt like a funeral.

RIP Tennessee football

I hope you got your emotions back under control.

The football forum is mostly whiny b*tches talking about their feelings, so if anyone wants to vent, they're having a sobfest.

I was drunk when I posted that last night. Now, with a sober mind, I can say with complete certainty that Butch needs to go. The sooner the better.

What kind of fans give up on a coaching staff when the going gets tough? I think giving up on the coaches is short-sighted and sadly representative of the instant gratification culture that seems pervasive today.

I understand that many here use the FF and RF to vent. I just think that it's foolish and weak-spirited to whine after a loss, and only act like a proud fan when the team wins.

What coach gives up on his team? As much as these players fight for him and fans show up to the game, he surely doesn't seem like he can coach his team to victory in meaningful games.

I'm proud of the team. The head coach, however, is becoming an embarrassment.

The playbook has shriveled since last year. I was watching some of the UT-Cincy game from 2011 earlier today, and they were throwing it all over the place. Even late last year our passing game was decent. Dobbs may not be as good of a passer as Zach Collaros, but he is serviceable.

I know DeBord is the only change, but I refuse to believe that Butch isn't responsible for this.

The offensive line is responsible for our lack of a passing game. They are clearly still the weak point of this team. The reason we are mostly throwing screens and short passes is because those are the only routes we have time to run. There is simply no time to run longer pass plays that take longer to develop because Dobbs will either get sacked or be running for his life.

They tend to run a lot of those 14 fake, long developing handoffs. Those take just as much time as a shotgun snap and quick toss on an inside slant.
