Tennessee fumbled and bumbled away it's chance to go into the most brutal 3 game stretch in college football on a high note, and instead is left with that sick feeling in your stomach when you realize you've been drinking a Mountain Dew which a cockroach had crawled inside of when you weren't looking.

Now, they head down to Athens, to play Georgia, who effectively ended the Butch Jones tenure a year ago with their thorough dismantling of the Vols. Georgia probably is a bit weaker this season, but unfortunately, Tennessee does not appear to be much better. I'm going to be honest... I value my time, and I'm going to mail in the next few weeks of gameday threads because digging through statistics and team analysis is not going to be a very productive use of my time when I really don't see a way in which we compete. The following keys to victory are truly keys, but admittedly, most are probably unattainable, so I'm not going to try to convince you otherwise. I appologize. If someone wants to do more legwork in the following posts, be my guest, but I'm not selling you any magic beans.

Keys to Victory:

1. Don't kill yourself: Not a message to fans, but to the team. 6 turnovers and repeated mental errors and blown coverages against Florida turned what was very much a close match-up into a blowout. They could not afford that against Florida, they cannot afford it here.

2. Dominate the Line of Scrimmage: Tennessee needs to ground up all of the unicorn horns and drink it in a pumpkin spice latte to turn the corner on the OL. Must protect the QB, whoever it may be, and create lanes for the RB's. Georgia is 14th nationally in rushing, averaging 250 yards per game and 7th in yards per attempt at 6.3 YPC. They've got a dude averaging 26.7 YPC, but that's small change compared to the dude averaging 47.5 YPC. I'm not making this up. Holyfield and Swift get most of the work, but it doesn't really matter who they put back there. So we need to stop them with our DL and LB. More realistically, the Safeties need to tackle well Saturday.

Fromm completes 72.5% of his passes. He'll only need 15-20 throws Saturday. We will probably see former nearly-Vol Justin Fields at QB eventually. He only completes 82% of his passes, so maybe we can mount the comeback then.

3. Avoid Injuries: You don't want to play scared, but I'd like to see no big injuries this week. Later this season, we've got some chances to win, so let's live.

4. Defensive Growth: Let the young guys continue to log minutes and grow. It's weird how this is like a game vs. and FCS team in reverse. It's like playing with house money because we're such an underdog. Hard to believe it's come to this in Tennessee football. Only way to go is up, I guess.

5. Helton's Heros: It's only going to get worse for OC Tyson Helton now in the SEC. He's got to grow in his play calling. I'd like to see some changes this week.

Prediction: If Tennessee eliminates the turnovers, the game may not get as out of hand as it appears it might. Then again, UGA has not scored less than 41 points yet. Vols have a really hard day in Athens.

I think for sure it will be a loss, but UGA was not all that dominant against Missouri. Cut down the disastrous mistakes, play angry and maybe get a moral victory.

I’d give London and Banks a lot of carries. Chandler as a change of pace. Thunder and lightning scenario.

Roll with an OL of

LT Richmond
LG Smith
C Johnson
RG Carvin
RT Johnson

Want to slow this game down as much as possible. Keep it close. Safety over the top at all times. I think it’s especially important for this team to not get rolled two weeks in a row.

as for the game, i don't even have a break down to offer. just stay healthy. get healthier over the bye and see if we can do anything for the Auburn game.

It may not be a complete rout. Smart will probably take the opportunity to play the bench and get game reps for the young guys. If the Vols let UGA's third- and fourth-stringers run up the score, then it's going to get ugly.

Disagree. I think Smart has a killer's mentality when it comes to games and, even more so, recruiting. He will use this as an opportunity to make a statement to any recruit that might be considering both UT and UGA.

I agree. He'll make an example out if us. I just hope we escape without any major injuries.
