'22 Recruiting Forum: Official Georgia Pregame/Game Thread

The only way you "stop our offense" (other than us committing penalties) is that you have to win the matchups on the outside while keeping 6-7 in the box to stop the run/pressure the QB. No one has been able to do that so far. Georgia certainly has more athletes on the back end (and probably in the front 7 too) than the majority of teams we've played (Alabama is more or less on par), but that doesn't automatically mean they can stop the offense. It just means they have guys who athletically have a better chance to run with our guys on the outside in 1 on 1s. However, those guys have to be able to get lined up quickly, get their eyes right and not blow assignments when we motion and go tempo. Those things aren't easy, regardless of how athletic you are. The athleticism just gives them a little more margin for error than say a Missouri DB would have.

Doubtful…
WR AD Mitchell (ankle): If we could, we would place him somewhere between doubtful and questionable. The sophomore wideout was injured on UGA’s first play from scrimmage against Samford. He missed the rest of that game and the next three before making a return to the playing field against Auburn. He did not play against Vanderbilt or Florida and we now know he’s dealing with the dreaded high-ankle sprain. We won’t be shocked if he plays but it won’t be much if he does.

Questionable…
RB Kendall Milton (groin/quadriceps): This has been an odd one. Smart made it sound like Mitchell would play against Vanderbilt and he didn’t. Then he made it sound like he would be fine for the Florida game but he didn’t play in that one either. We’ll see if Georgia gets him back this week.

OL Xavier Truss (turf toe): Truss has played really well for Georgia of late but he has also been dealing with a nagging toe injury. Smart indicated on Tuesday that Truss hasn’t practiced much. He had mainly participating in conditioning to that point in the week. If he can’t go or is limited, Devin Willock will have a large role.

OL Amarius Mims (knee): The sophomore offensive tackle suffered a knee injury against Florida and it looked way worse than it actually was. Mims has been able to practice some this week after suffering a minor MCL sprain. It’s unclear whether or not he will go but it’s important to point out how he has played some key snaps at right tackle this season.

Probable…
OLB Chaz Chambliss (hamstring): This is one of the guys that can help Georgia absorb the loss of Nolan Smith. The problem is that Chambliss has been dealing with a hamstring injury for over a month. He played against Florida but Smart said that the hamstring was bothering him during and after that game. Chambliss will likely be available but soft-tissue injuries can be tricky.

It may be LSU all over again

How much orange do we think will be in the stadium? Same as LSU? Because that LSU game almost sounded like a home game.
i haven't seen or heard nearly the amount of chatter about TN fans able to get to this game. the $$ is a lot more, and i think UGA and UGA fans are doing a much better job of keeping their tickets and going to the game....i will be shocked if this is anything like LSU or Pitt, from an attendance standpoint. i expect it to be full on red and black, with the usual patches of orange.

i still don't think it matters. for whatever reason, i'm just strangely confident this week. i think this is going to be a great game. i think both teams are more than capable of winning. but i guess i'm just gonna have to see somebody stop us before i'll believe it. and by stop us, i mean stop us consistently. make us punt 3+ times. make us go 3 and out. stop us on 4th downs. make us kick more FG's.

the crown won't mean a thing if we do what we do.

all i'm thinking about right now, and all week really, is that 1996 Florida game. we're the home team. we're the bully looking for revenge on the 95 game. we set the record, back then anyways, for the largest crowd to ever watch a college football game on campus...the hype was real. we had peyton manning....the game kickd off and the place was as loud as i've ever heard it. i was at that game that day and the tail gaiting was fantastic, the crown was lathered..top 5 match up.....all the things.

1st possession, we get them to 3rd down, tackle for loss, crowd is going nuts......stopped 'em!!!!! Spurrier goes for it on 4th and 11, and scores a 40+ yard TD, and the crowd died almost immediately. my roomate left the game after that play. lol. we proceeded to pee down our leg the rest of the half, and was down 4TD's before we woke up in the 2nd half and made a run at 'em.

this is what i'm thinking about this week. it's gonna be fun to be THAT team.

Mitchell is probably the most important player on this list. If they have to rely solely on Bowers and Ladd to make plays then it's going to be a long night for UGA.

I have a feeling we’ll see some new offensive wrinkles tomorrow. Heupel didn’t need any tricks last week to dismantle Kentucky. Tomorrow, I could see us going full throttle with novel misdirections to get that big first half lead. We’ll see if Georgia can punch back offensively. I’m not sure they can.

Up until the Kent St game Georgia’s defense looked unbeatable. Then Kent St scores 22 or so against them. Then Mizzu darn near beats them. Since then they have recovered for the most part.
What was the different in those games? We’re there players missing? Was their attitude not what it should be? I can’t figure what could cause such a night and day difference as that.
