The most important game in the last 17 years...and we lose our QB, #1 WR and #2 RB..
just as all the talking heads are all downgrading us and screaming we are out of the playoffs if/when we lose this game..
This is some serious
..
Is this the most Tennessee thing ever?
I don't believe Nico or Donte are playing...so getting this win in Athens will be a Herculean task...or a miracle.
We deserve a miracle for all the dumb crap that has happened to us over the years.
this is why symptoms of BVS still exist for many of us. and i'll admit, it's been hard for me not go there as well. i was so pissed Tuesday night. Fostering that even more, the committed did exactly what UGA needed....gave Kirby exhibit A on establishing the "disrespect card", which we all know he's had a track record of using to their advantage very well over the years. Top 4 one week to out of hte playoff all together the next for losing a road game to a top 10 team, but Miami loses to GT and is still in the top 4? honestly, they should be pissed.
That said, i'm countering that with 2 things....
1. i think it's pretty obvious there's an assumption UGA will just win this game, cause, UGA. the narrative out there is "UGA has to win this game", while at the same time saying "if TN loses, they're basically out". so the disrespect card plays both ways.
2. on football stuff on it's own, this is actually a very even match up and you could make a good argument that UGA and TN have basically had the same type of season. defense is good, offense isn't consistent, but apparently capable. both teams make way too many mistakes. the difference there: we can run the ball and have a start at RB. the match up is good on bad for both teams when our defenses are on the field. i think both teams will tell you that this game is going to be on the O Line's shoulders, and both teams need to reduce/eliminate mistakes.
Long story short, there is most certainly a path for us to win this game.
assume we are full go, do we see more of the game plan we saw against NCSU in this game? we've used personnel packages from that game, but we haven't gone all in on it as a game plan since then...i'm wondering if getting the TE's more involved in packages like we saw in that game is something we see again here? we should see a lot of man to man on the outside, so that may create some match ups for the TE's that could be favorable....?
the unknowns at this point are the exact health of our key players and where they really are as this week has progressed. Sampson isn't listed on the report i don't think but it's pretty well known he's definitely "feeling it" these days with amount of hits he's taken ....and Nico being cleared, doesn't necessarily mean he's 100%. so i'm concerned about him, regardless. if he's out, all bets are off.
speaking of...while the money seems to be evening out, you'd expect the line to come down some as this week has gone on to continue that trend, and it hasn't really. last i saw it was up to, what, UGA -10? the public is taking UGA. smart money seems to be on TN? does that mean anything?
i won't be shocked if we we win. we are plenty capable. but i think a good start is absolutely mandatory to quiet things.....i'm pretty sure UGA would say the same thing. i expect this game will be extremely physical, defenses will win more than they lose a lot of times and i think anything we can do to keep the ghosts around for Beck is certainly a good thing. i don't think "hand wringing" properly describes how i think this game will go. lol.
so let's see what happens....maxim game incoming. GBO
