Not unless they were calling plays and defensive formations. That's a cop out. Coaches lost the Oklahoma and Florida game. All on them.

So Maggitt and Gaulden being able to play wouldn't change the outcome of 4th and 14 or Mayfield scrambling around and beating us with miracle throws?

The coaches have everything to do with 2 of those losses, with or without those two players.

Not all coaches; not all players. If defense makes two 4th down stops, we beat OU and UF. Our team is learning how to make game winning plays- the beginning of the Georgia game showed me that.

Should have never come to that, and we all know it.

The defense, particularly the secondary and linebackers, were huge liabilities early in the season. No Martin. No Kirkland. Add those two to OU with their current comfort level and we win big. Add Maggitt and Gaulden and we probably shut them out.

We went up 27-13 against UF with less than 6 minutes left. Coaches had them up. Make a play.

Even after OU had momentum by tying game, we scored first in OT. Make a play.

Yup. Coaching is NOT blameless at all. But make two plays and we are 6-2 and rolling into Atlanta in spite of those coaching errors.

Coaches called timeouts against Florida more than once on 4th down and gave Florida time to reconsider and go for it, set up a play, and convert. Game changing plays. Not to mention the awful 2 minute drill to end that game.

Coaches sat on a 14 point lead for an entire half against OU. Ridiculous.

I don't really need to repeat this stuff. The entire country was talking about it both weeks. Those games were lost by conservative and bad coaching. Both games we outplayed our opponent.

You're right. The coaches messed up. But can't it be both? It's not ALL on the coaches OR all on the players. Both made mistakes. But both are getting better if you ask me.

Our margin of error is still painfully thin against really good teams. Coaching bears some responsibility, yes, but we've been missing some major playmakers.

Win out, Vols.

Yep. We are fine. Win out, dominate a bowl game again, and we are right on track for 2016 to be the year that we really make a lot of noise.

You are living in a fantasy land. I love how Gaulden is Ronnie Lott on here just because our D hasn't been great against the pass.

Good win against Kentucky. We are a lot better than they are, and we handled our business. Well coached game today. Best of the year.

Agreed. Players played well enough to win those two games though. Easily.

Coaches have made big steps though I agree. Last two weeks especially, which is good to see.

I am not disagreeing that the coaching wasn't great. But the point is that you recruit great players to overcome decisions and play calling. Yes, that happens even at Alabama. If we have the players that we have lost to injuries in those games, our chances to win go way up. It was clear to me after the Georgia game that our players had to learn how to make game winning plays. They turned the corner during that game. Poor execution can make it look like bad coaching. Great execution masks poor play calling. This isn't difficult stuff.

Shout out to Josh Malone...best game of his career. He's really turning the corner and starting to live up to the hype. You can tell the difference in the unit with Butch coaching them.

They didn't play well enough in the last 6 minutes of either game. If they tackle Mayfield or sack Grier or play better pass defense, they win. Some of that has nothing to do with play calls.
