I honestly have no idea how this is going to go, but IF Milton executes the playbook up to his prodigious abilties, and the recievers make good catches and don't drop easy throws, and the OL blocks at least decently..we could seriously blow them off the field..but..

If Milton struggles again, and if the receivers are not dependable, and the OL doesn't give Joe time and the RBs some holes...we will lose, maybe even badly...so..

Either 47-23 Vols or 38-17 Pitt depending on those things..

I think we will have better days in the future, but this team still needs too much work for a win Saturday.

The defense looked good against an outmatched opponent, which is a big plus since our defense looked bad against similarly outmatched opponents the last three years. I predict we see them come back down to Urath and find out that our talent pool is more like a talent splash park. Any evenly matched opponent will get to our bench and find holes.

The running offense looked very good last week, but the passing attack looked as bad as some of the passing games I played against in the UT inter-mural flag football league circa early nineties. It was a strong armed QB dropping back and taking forever to find a receiver while the wideouts ran around until they got the ball thrown to them and dropped.

The good news is, I think Coach Heup has the ability to teach this team and fix the offensive problems, but i think we have a lot of work to do and it won't be complete in time for a win against Pitt on Saturday.

Pit 24 - 17 Vols.

But, we WILL get better!

If anyone is interested in what Pitt was doing last week, here are the highlights. Bama, they are not. OLine / running game looks like a strength. They had a Dlineman make the weekly all conference team. Rest kinda looks like an unchallenged mid-tier team, so hard to really know what to expect.

If we can get a week 2 bump from Milton I think we’ve got a good chance to pull it off.

UMASS is so bad its hard to tell how good/bad Pitt is. Pitt looks slow on both sides of the ball.

Yes they do, also, Bowling Green runs the same type of stuff as Pitt and we ate it up all game. Those screen passes won’t work against our LBs and DBs and those outside runs won’t work either. Their RBs are not fast enough.

Kenny Pickett is getting a lot of hype for a guy with 13 td's to 9 interceptions each of the last two years..
"This is the year he figures out!" - About a guy who is in his 9th year in the same system.

Sounds very familiar. He might torch us, but I'll believe their QB is something to write home about once he goes off against someone who isn't UMass.

Gotta fix the wheel route issue. I think they will.

I said it in the other thread but the UMass OL and DL are pathetic. DL especially on a pass rush. Hard to gather much from that. I don't think their O-line is that great.

Main questions to me at least is how productive the offense can be through the air. Additionally, can we contain their big plays on defense. I'm starting to be more positive about the game because I think our D-line will disrupt their QB and limit time in the pocket. I don't think they can dink and dunk down the field consistently to beat us

Overall, I am not scared of Pitt. I think CJH and CTB will put together a good plan on both sides of the ball and it will come down to basic execution of the plan and in game adjustments. They made adjustments on both sides of the ball last week in the 2nd half and we shut down BGSU. Pitt is much better than BGSU but that is like saying that a short person is taller than a midget.

Don't worry Glitch. Next week the same folks that are touting their prowess will be declaring they play in a weak conference and there was nothing to be gained by beating them.

I have zero doubt that you are correct. Some won't be able to be happy if everything clicked and we won the east this year. They would say... "well UGA's offense was weak and Florida fell apart this year. We just took advantage of a down east."

I also think much better days are coming, but I agree that there are just too many holes on offense right now, starting with Milton and the lackluster WR performance. Until QB gets worked out, no coach will have a chance at even moderate success here.

I’m going with my BVS and predicting 27-13 Pitt.

I just don’t have a good feel for this one at all. I was feeling very pessimistic until I saw that point about Tim Banks having familiarity with their offense, and that helps a little. If a team gets to 30 I think they win this thing. Unfortunately, my BVS is too strong for me to be optimistic about this game, and it’s a shame, because after last night I’ve moved Ole Miss from the “Tossup” to “Probable Loss” category. Maybe the D and running game will be enough to win, but I just can’t predict one yet.

Pitt 27
Vols 24

(Obligatory) Hope I’m wrong. I’m not pessimistic long term, just for this game and possibly my preseason goal of getting to 7-5.

If we score 13 points, we are in for a long year
