The key here is the refs. If there were dead ball penalties the play should have been called dead instead of letting the play happen. Those last two plays are exactly why.

I swear I can’t stand officiating in this league. It’s pee wee level out there.

Lea didn’t help matters from controlling his team on the ensuing skirmish. But overall, the blame goes to the officials for letting it get out of hand. And not making the correct calls.
