Recruiting future for the Vols - Post your opinion

Aren't you getting tired of all the "NegaVol" insults from the silly Joel Olteen following, "don't be negative, be positive" la la land fans? Dooley has allot of work to do pretty fast in recruiting, if the program is going to improve. It is neither negative or positive, it just is. Maybe the people they call "NegaVols" are the true Vols... the ones who expect nothing less than EXCELLENCE. Excellence is what UT is supposed to be about. That, of course, includes recruiting, and Dooley isn't close to it yet in recruiting.

No, but I will tell you what I am getting tired of...

Ppl defending their stance as pessimistic jerks who have nothing but bad things to say about this football team and it's staff. That's not being a true fan, IMHO, that's being a person who is never happy with any kind of success because they always want more. You cant be a fan of any team and expect perfection all of the time bc you will get dissapointed.

And are you really a fan when if the team doesnt do exactly what you want, you get on the internet and post a bunch of negative, demeaning comments about it's coaches and players?

You sound like the little, spoiled brat on Christmas Day that didnt get the toy he/she wanted so you ruin Christmas for the rest of the family.

And as far as Dooley's recruiting, for a team that is riding a thin line on .500 in the past three years, and hasnt been ranked in the same amount of time, being in the top 10-25 for 2 years is pretty impressive to me. I know you "NegaVols" (sorry "trueVol") expect #1 recruiting classes every year but that usually goes to winning teams who are competing for a NC.

You have to earn those types of classes through winning, and Dooley, sad to say, just hasnt been here long enough yet to win us one. He will, I would bet my left nut on that.

So no, I am not getting tired of ppl hating on so called "NegaVols" who complain about everything that this football team does, and no, I dont think Dooley is lacking in the recruiting department, he saved last years class, as posted above.

If you cant root for your team, at least a majority of the time than maybe that says something about you and your happiness and has nothing to do with football.

Support our team whole-heartedly, dont leave at halftime, dont ride our 18-21 yr old players for every little mistake, and dont attack other fans for being positive and maybe you wont have so much to be "negative" about.

Everyone needs to erase this whole recruiting rankings nonsense from their heads. I've bought into it myself, but the truth is that the only way to evaluate a class is to look at it in hindisght 3-5 years down the road and see how it's performed. Fulmer's 2008 squad included two top 5 classes and went 5-7. The priority for recruiting needs to be as follows:

1. Will qualify academically.
2. Has been fully evaluated by the coaching staff and judged to have the physical and mental attributes necessary to play the position(s) for which he is recruited. This includes things like speed, height, coordination and coachability.
3. Is capable of playing at a position of need as determined by the likely depth chart for the next 2-3 years. If you cannot get All Americans for all positions of need, then you take who you can get.
4. Only after all positions of need are addressed, look at extra playmakers who meet #1 and may or may not meet #2 but who have certain intanglibles that might make them the kind of player that can make a game breaking play. This is your slow but tall WRs. Your undersized backs who have alot of shiftiness. The tweener types.
5. When you cannot get anyone to sign who meets 1-3 or 1&4 and you still have scholarships left, then you start looking at the crapshoots. Kids with issues but who have God-given talent to light up a field.

This year top 13 i will say. Then after that it will depend on how we do but i will say top 15 for the future but when we start winning again we will start pulling top 5's.

A lot of people complain about this class but most of the three stars should or will be four stars when it's all said and done. Dooley and co. have a good class of athletes they're putting together. Some guys I have questions about but others are no brainers. I think we'll end up with a top 10 recruiting class. Players are responding to Dooley and want to play for him.

Good afternoon all. I have seen a lot of discussion posted in the Recruiting forum about the direction and status of recruiting for the football program. I would like to get VolNation's input on where you think we finish in recruiting rankings for 2011 and 2012. I will start things off and we can run with the discussion...

UT recruiting class Finishing position
2011 Top 15
2012 Top 5

I think with the late start for 2011 the staff is starting to gain momentum for the future. Your thoughts???

2011 SEC Rank 7th
2012 SEC Rank 6th

I see no reason to believe we will be competing with the SEC elite for recruits anytime soon. I see no reason to believe we will even be competing for the 2nd tier in the SEC for recruits anytime soon. Looks like we'll mostly be fighting to stay out of the cellar.
