Hey VN. I wanted to know what you guys thought about the idea of hiring a "professional recruiter"? What I mean is a grade A businessman with a knack for closing deals. (A strong-as-death salesman) I know that the NCAA would have a say in this, as it is college, but there are ways around that. It seems as of now its usually the fb coach that is best at it does the job. How long until these "programs" (businesses) go the extra step and put a guy on staff who is a closing machine? Just a thought during this offseason. I personally think its a matter of time issue. What about yall?

It can be done, schools name 8 people who can legally recruit for them by NCAA rules. If one of your coaches isn't a great recruiter, you could let someone else do it. I don't know if they have to be on staff or not though...

I would think anyone cleared to recruit would need to be on FB staff. My point is the duties that you'd lose by getting rid of 1 "coach" (actual FB coach) could be made up by the other seven. Whereas, you can't make up the closing ability of the proposed "closer" with FB guys.

I just think with the direction the "game" is going, its inevitable. Why not UT as the 1st to do it?

we haven't been able to get a dedicated ST because of the limit on coaches. Getting rid of an actual X&O's guy and replacing him with a guy who knows nothing isn't going to help us at all. I understand where you're going but it won't work

Answer me this, is the DofFBOp or ppl from his office allowed to have contact with prospects as a rep of the Univ? Possible place for a "closer" there, if so.

I'm pretty sure they have to be designated by the university.

So we give them 8 names that can contact recruits. And any of the 8 must be on FB staff? And you can only have 8 coaches? Silly double-rule there, if so.

Wait, We have a pic of Wilie with a recruit, just days ago. The day he committed @ that. And I'm almost positive that Wilie wouldn't be on our list of 8.

I don't know the ins and outs of the rules. But I believe they could figure out how to do the 2 needed things: 1) comply with the 'AA, for all practical purposes, and 2) Compensate the man.

I don't know the exact number, but Wylie may have been able to contact him because the recruit was on campus.

I may be misinterpreting the definition of your "businessman/deal closer." What exactly would his duties entail? Sell the program? Sell the coaches? Sell the team? I feel it would take someone with great football knowledge. Recruits want to see a lot when it comes to committing to a program. They want to be assured of success, playing time, growth as a player, ability to go to the next level, etc. They want to be pampered, more or less.

You'd still have their "recruiter" or position coach and HC develope a relationship. Once this is established, you turn him over to your "closer". I'm not talking about some petty used car salesmen. I'm talkin a bad-arse. Like the dude from "Thank You for Smoking" If this doesn't help, lynx, ill try again.

I understand, but maybe I don't see the necessity of having this type of a person on staff. What type of a relationship will the player have with a kid? I feel like the player will want to feel comfortable in all situations in regards to the program he is committing the next 3-4 years of his life to.

I see recruiters like Ed O, Gran, or CCS being these "closers."

They are, because they are the closest to the type of talent I'm speaking of. They just happen to be coaches. I'm talking about sales gurus. Pros. Guns-for-hire. Guys that can make a 17 year old and his grandma eat out of his hand.A lot of sales is emotion. Trigger the senses and trigure emotion, thus generating an emotional, (not always rational, decision) Of course, a decision to play FB @ the U of Tenn is ALWAYS a rational decision. But not so much in sales. I'm just saying, Ed Orgeron may be one of the best closers that can coach a Dlineman, but he's far from the best closer. They'd still have a "coach" recruiting them, we don't exactly have to tell them they're coming to play FB.. "We've got a D-Line coach. don't worry kid, were still gonna coach you"

IDK that they could actually utilize a closer in the sense that you mean but they could possibly employ something like a profiler to figure out exactly what pitch the kid and family would respond to. Sounds a little out there but psychological profiling works in a lot of places marketing, criminal justice, politics. I don't see why it couldn't help in recruiting.
