Recruiting in the 21st Century.

I see your point but your talking about two different types of sales and salespeople.

The closer gets the deal done and is on to the next person. The bad part is the customer is not always happy later because he may have been emotional manipulated. This guy rarely gets repeat customers.

The better salesman builds a relationship. He doesn't emotional or mentally manipulate but builds trust. Its a softer close and the customer is usually happy with his decision.

IMO, a closer may get the kid on campus but 3 months later there is a good chance he might not be happy. Then you have a disgruntled 5* player who wants to transfer.

I think you're better off building trust and making sure a kid wants to be on your campus. That's why coaches are in the best position to recruit.

Good angle Tri-v, I neglected to look @ that aspect. However, he's not exactly "ripping them off" per se, so the "buyers remorse" that your speaking of wouldn't be that strong, would it?

Btw Kush on the Mason/Goff thing you were right and I was wrong.

Mason told the GT staff he was going on the visit before he committed and the GT coaches were fine with it.

If/When we miss on Wilder than Goff will likely get a offer.

Thank you sir. But,(and not to be an arse) I don't think he told them. I don't think they asked. Don't quote me bc I asked him through someone in the room with him, so I don't necesarily trust that he understood what I was asking him. But I took his answer to mean that it wasn't specifically brought up. However, I still think I'm right that he was coming/did come, and that he wouldn't get his offer pulled.I've not got many inside sources, but I know what's going on with Goff/Mason. Talked to McCullom from the get go on these guys. (Well, actually CAM knew about Goff @ NCst but they had no relationship prior to this Feb.). Goff will have a GT offer soon. If not, he won't be @ GT. (<This part is my opinion, not a quote)CAM seems like a great guy, btw Sounds like a good ole boy, to me. What's the chatter amongst fans about him? And remind me, he's RB's or LB's?? I forget.

You think Mason is solid to GT?

McCollum was a LB coach at State but he's now a DL coach and head recruiter at Tech. All the fans like him...he's a great guy.

I know GT is holding Wilder a spot but he's announcing in July and he's not coming to GT.

that would be a really crapy turn to the game....college football have enough buissness sleezeballs in it.

Having to sport a degree from MSt instead of Auburn isn't exactly comparable, damage/sleezy- wise to paying 32K back on a '10 Sentra, albeit @ $261/mo. for 96 mos, but- NOTHING DOWN, mr and ms Jenkins! =) LOL

My connection to Mason is strictly that he's Goff's 'mate. So they talk regularly. I'd be lying if I said I had asked him or if I knew. I will say that they are like most guys, they want to play in the SEC or ACC (in that order). And in most cases, its generally a positive if kids have the option of going somewhere together. (Strictly from a transitional standpoint) ie. Nash-Rogers..would be Miller-Willis,ect. A funny lil fact about this recruitment is I , (based on my investigative work) think that Mason got calls on film sent of Goff. I don't know specifically any instances, but the timing of some calls, and which schools called, supports my theory of this. Now, of course I'm not presenting this as a negative thing, bc I truly believe they will both be able to choose from a nice list of great Universities when its all said and done. God willing. These guys are good kids. No trouble, no BS kids. Not sure ab SM but TGoff's gpa is good. And the kid knows how to work hard, and *rite from wrong.

I'd love to see them in orange, but more importantly, they need to go where they are wanted, and want to be. It very well could end up being a GT duo by Feb. Time will tell. Ill keep you updated, with whàt you 'need to know'...lol

Being ripped off depends on your perspective. In my industry the average product cost is $400. Some people gladly pay $1000 for the product because they feel it is superior to everything else. The salesman sold them on it. Others pay the $1000, realize they were oversold and have a negative reaction. The product didn't change. The emotional reaction of the person did.

I think the same would be true in recruiting. You could
hard close some kids and they would fall in love with UT after they were on campus. The danger is if you got a 3-4 that had buyer's remorse. They could be a cancer to the team. It's a numbers game.
