First of UT is a bluechip environment. Second they pulled in a higher ranking class than UF in a VERY short time.

They will be just fine

Is that a hit and run one liner or do you actually want to engage on that?

No, I don't want to get into the 2009 class. I wanted to talk about the "blue chip" status. Implying that kids want to come to UT to play for Lane as much as they want to come to USC to play for Pete.

Do you really believe that?

No. Pete Carroll in terms of coaches is blue chip and you are correct, he has a royal name in college football.

UT as a program historically is bluechip (as blue as it gets), and that's what I am getting at.

Kids in 2009 wanted bad enough to play for Kiffin and Co, but they also want to play for 107,000 fans, in the best conference in the country, for early PT, for coaches that have NFL connections. UT has the fan and monetary support along with the history to make those things happen. We have a staff that garners those good things and presents them to the talent out there.

As good as Pete and Urban and Tressel and Mack and Bob....our little staff was able to attract a damn good class in very little time. The kids might want to play for a certain HC. But we sell that you can play for a bluechip staff who have been there and done that.

11 NC won under our staff, 1 Superbowl, numerous conference championships, numerous all world players coached under our staff.

Reggie Bush, Warren Sapp, Matt Leinhart, Matt Cassell, Tro Palomalo, John David Booty, Mike Williams, Drew Brees, Carson Palmer, Kyle Ortom... There's more

But Saban is doing waaaay better than Mike Shula was.

It a combination of the coach and the institution.

But you give out 5-10X as many offers as USC. Why do that if the kids want to play for you just as much.

The recruiting strategy is completely different at uSC than Tenn. No in state talent. South Cal alone has enough talent to field their entire team just like Texas for UT and South Florida (for all of Florida). We are rebuilding this year and so we have to scour the four corners
Of the earth to get talent. Lane and Ed O did a similar thing at USC when they sucked.

I am not arguing that USC is a better program with a better rep for the past 10 years. That's no dispute.

With that said in one poll we had a higher ranked class than USC, an in both polls we had a higher class than UF. Drool or no drool

USCs rep has been dominant for the better part of this decade, maybe not 10 years ago per se

In my eyes that is not a blue chip situation. You may get there, but not today.

We have to find a level of winning (on the field) we have not had consistantly, as of late. There is no denying that. Some kids are interested to see what the new staff has, winning and sending kids to the league will sustain it. If we go .500 or less the next 2 years, recruiting will get tougher than ever. If we go .750/.800 we will be back in the door.

Kind of tough to take your "blue chip" argument seriously when you're throwing USC in it. They were in much worse shape than UT is now when Pete and Co took over.
