Recruiting is Going Just Fine -- Here's Why

I think ppl losing it about recruiting is a joke. If we have one top 15 year, it'll be ok. He has given us two top 5 years! Without Butch, we couldn't have done that coming off Dooley.

The man is a bada** recruiter. I was afraid he was handing kids money, that's how good he is at this shiznat.

There is a small percentage of very loud and tireless naysayers that want to see failure in this program to prove their hand wringing legitimate.

Some people are just hard wired to see the negative in everything in life period. Be thankful if none of then live in your home.

If you didn't read/hear the Bob Welton interview, it tells you all you need to know. They are at a point where they can take "projects" with tremendous upside but can redshirt and develop a skill set and show out after some seasoning. UT doesn't get Bama offer * bumps, but this staff has proven they have a good eye and can develop raw talent.

On Rivals, we have 8 4* and 7 3* (Total 15).
Alabama has 1 5*, 9 4* and 7 3* (Total 17).

Alabama is #8 in terms of Points (quantity) and #3 in terms of Average (quality). We're 27 in Points and 8 in Average.

If J. Guarantano (#31) gets bumped up to 5* (likely) and Butch adds two 4*s (easy for him to do), we have exactly the same class as Alabama.

On Rivals, Mecole Hardman Jr is a 5*. Nigel Warrior is a 5* on Scout/4* on Rivals. We're in the running for about a dozen 4* among all the services.

[Florida has 25 verbals, but 16 are 3*.]

Butch has already pulled offers on some 3s and even a couple 4s. He knows what he's doing. I'm resting easy we'll be in the Top 5 again in terms of quality, which is where it's at.

Ignore the hystericals here and in the media. We were behind 24-3 vs. UGA and won going away.

I like your overall point, but the scenario you gave to get with Alabama would mean they did not add another recruit while we added.

I think we win the East next year, but having said that, if we are at that point, then I guess we have the depth we need after all and should not be saying 6-7 years to build team.

I'm not going to worry about this recruit or that recruit. We don't know what's going on behind doors. Butch has proved that he knows how to finish a class up. Even if we don't land that high of a class for 16, if Butch can get our Vols on a good run next season, it will go a long way for putting a top class together for the 17 class. Next season could quiet possibly be the make or break season for Butch. Thoughts?

Classic under sell/over perform tactics...
But in reality, quality 3 deep across the board depth does take that long, because every coach misses on some prospects or some don't pan out...

Think of it like this, you can have a damn good team based off 1 recruiting class(Ole Miss) but after they all leave for the NFL,and follow it with 2 mediocre classes, the next one better be outstanding or the slide downhill will start...
Or be like Bama is now, or like UT & FSU were in the 90's, just reload with the next blue chip waiting for his turn

The big play was the catch by on Pearson on 4th down in the first half! That was crucial!

Swell. Another stargazer. I go on record not giving a damn about where ESPN ranks this years class, because it doesn't mean jack crap, and sticking our chests out about that is like breaking wind in a crowded elevator.

"In the running for" is not always a silent commit. Why brag about Hardman and Warrior before either commit? Even though they are both #1 and #2 on my wish list, I am not making brags until they put on our shade of orange and say they are Vols.

However, the good news is the three JUCO players who all fill areas of need are secured, and Osbourne's signing his papers tells other programs to buzz off. And I will be surprised if someone else throws down a verbal until the Outback Bowl is over. (Note: Everytime I post a prediction like that, someone makes a liar out of me, so consider this posting an intentional karmatic nudge.)

In closing, you don't need to call others on here hysterical. And as a bit of feedback, consider appropriately replacing the "Ol" in your screen name.

Stargazing requires looking upward, and that's what Ol Owl's doing and you're not. I didn't see a prediction there; just a positive "what if." Considering the closing jobs Butch's done in '14 and then in '15, let's consider that the '16 class is going to include a few monstrous grabs. Misters Hardman and Warrior? Remember Drew Richmond? I'm looking upward, too.

Yep, can't remember how many times opponents tried to choke Barnett out from behind.

You could find a holding call on every snap, but Barnett had several blatant penalties right in front of the referee. I couldn't believe some of the ones they let go.

6 to 7 for a team...no.

6 to 7 for a program? Yes.

That was his point.

Butch does this every year. Some of us forget that. To let go of some of the recruits he has, tells you he has some other lined up.

He really has rebuilt Tennessee. And he's doing it right.

So he hasn't won a championship in his first 3 years.

But he has laid the foundation to compete for one every year!
Recruiting:
- Strong in-state ties (Nashville area huge)
- Strong presence in Georgia
- Cherry picking the Carolinas

Style of Play:
-Physical fast paced offense
- multiple defense that is built on speed
- good special teams

From this point forward we have EVERYTHING we need to win and win big!
