These kids, however, should not be in control. They're kids. If they take other visits after committing, then you need to yank that scholarship. If you let them think they have control, then they'll do their best to walk all over you the following years.
I'm a man, and when I say I'm gonna do something, I'm gonna do it. And a move like this by a coach is teaching this young man to be a real man, and not make potential false guarantees and leave room for wonder and speculation.
Good for the coach. I would do the same thing, even if it meant that all I got was 20, 2-star recruits. My recruiting for that year would end on Signing Day, because after that, I gotta coach spring ball and have time to get my next year's recruits.
I give Lane Kiffin a reprieve this year because his recruiting started so late in the year. But next year, I will be expecting him to shut the doors on signing day.
