Recruiting Might Change

They should just not allow anyone to commit publicly until NSD and make everyone sign within a week of NSD. All problems would be solved with those moves IMO

It just seems the cycle is skewed right now. Whereas there's obviously a two way street going on (recruit vs. coach), it just seems like it would be a hell of a lot easier if they made it more simplified. Make it so that there is basically no such thing as a commitment, only your LOI indicates anything. Then the recruits are happy with their commitment, the school is happy with their recruits, and the fans aren't riding some tidal wave of speculation beyond NSD.

It was the wrong thing to say to the kid (not qouting) how would you like it if we recruited another QB? That is horse pucky, does the coach think for one minute we believe him, if a 5* stud QB was out there that fit that triple option he would be all over him and never mention that to the other kid.

Good point. He shouldn't make a commitment unless he means it. More importantly, after he made an offer did he try to recruit someone else into that same position?

The word "commitment" in the context of college football recruiting deviates slightly from a dictionary definition. For better or worse, this is true.

These kids, however, should not be in control. They're kids. If they take other visits after committing, then you need to yank that scholarship. If you let them think they have control, then they'll do their best to walk all over you the following years.

I'm a man, and when I say I'm gonna do something, I'm gonna do it. And a move like this by a coach is teaching this young man to be a real man, and not make potential false guarantees and leave room for wonder and speculation.

Good for the coach. I would do the same thing, even if it meant that all I got was 20, 2-star recruits. My recruiting for that year would end on Signing Day, because after that, I gotta coach spring ball and have time to get my next year's recruits.

I give Lane Kiffin a reprieve this year because his recruiting started so late in the year. But next year, I will be expecting him to shut the doors on signing day.
