Saban and Meyer do it regularly, IMO Clark and West were better O-Line prospects then Posey is. Regardless, will Dooley stay committed to these players he signed a year ago come signing day if a better one comes around? I sure hope not, you need a little bit of a cut-throat mentality to succeed in the SEC.

Well you almost can't help it when the better players you want wait until late in the year or signing day to commit. It's not really recruiting over them when a player commits early.

1.) Yes I think he will stay committed to players who are truly committed to us

2.) No way West or Clark are better than Posey...if Posey weren't mis-projected as an OT and he were listed as an OG like he should be then he'd be a 4 star on every site...not just ESPN

3.) Did you see that West and Clark both committed elsewhere today

Ummm, if you have seen the tapes of those 3 and think that West and Clark are better than Posey.... then I want what you're smoking.

I posted it because of West and Clark committing, everything I read said we backed off of both of them Posey has great size, I am just not sure about his athleticism

Any player that thinks his position is safe from being recruited over the following year is an naïve. I don't think I'd want that player on the team because he's probably lazy and/or selfish.

Concerning current recruiting, commitments are only verbal till NSD. If the staff thinks they can get someone better go for it. The player has the right to change his mind too.

If you think of Posey as an OG...like he almost certainly will be at the college level...then the athleticism isn't an issue like it would be if he were a true OT...

That's why I'm surprised all the sites list him as an OT...I think it's pretty obvious he and Kerbyson will be guards at the next level

But no...I don't think Dooley would "force out" a current commit if another, high rated player came along near NSD....but I do believe he will go after higher rated players at the same position in the following class...so in that sense the player is being recruited over...but that's completely differant

Related question for you guys. Do you think Dooley will recruit players that are verbals to other schools? I just don't see him getting after these players. I hope I am wrong.

Yes & the staff is doing that on a number of prospects right now.

If he thinks he can get them, then I believe he will. Other coaches would do it to us... and have.

Dooley will do it if he needs to.

However, if you read the article about his recruiting process it is very, very detail oriented. They take a whole player approach to evaluating talent rather than hoping the fastest and biggest guys will have the right attitude and mental/emotional make up.

One of the first things I read about Posey was he had a very wide mean streak between the snap and whistle. Next he is supposedly a pretty smart guy both on and off the field.... and he STILL has physical ability comparable to some of the guys you've been talking about.

IOW's, while I think he would do it if he had to, I don't think he will have to very often. I don't think he's making committable offers to guys he thinks can be recruited over.

You better hope your Boss doesn't think that way!!

Dooley will only recruit the players who call and ask him if they can play for UT. I dont see him putting in any more effort than that. I guess they could show up and ask to play also.

Sure he will recruit commits from other schools. If Dooley is anything, he is pragmatic and smart enough to play the recruiting game. I don't know if he will be successful, but I'm sure he knows his way around. His job is tougher because of the lack of top players in his back yard, but will adjust his efforts accordingly.

The other guys are always smarter and better than our guys.

I hope if Dooley makes an offer that he has the integrity to stand by his offer.
Goes both ways. A lot of players won't honor a verbal commitment and a lot of players will change their commitment between now and national signing day. A commitment is also about doing the right things and taking care of your business before NSD. If a player isn't doing the things academically to get in, or staying in shape, staying out of trouble off the field they would definitely be recruited over. IDK that Dooley will burn a kid last minute to sign an elite guy but if a player just melts down on the field his senior year he would be urged to look around.
