Some of you may know this already but for those who dont....

Rivals has us at #26

Scout has us at #25

I think its very possible we pull a top 15 class..which would be great considering what our record will be this year!

Just to let you know, be prepared for a bunch of people saying were freaking Tennessee top 15 classes wont do anything for us, if were not in the top 5 every year then were going to suck.

We need to finish at least top 10 in order to compete in the SEC. I saw Mike Shula bring home many a top 15 class, but wind up finishing 7th in the SEC in recruiting.

Ask georgia how far their top ten classes have got them. We need solid coaching in addition to good recruiting. Sometimes coaching trumps talent ie boise state.

BOISE STATE has not had a top 20 year in the past 5:)

Boise St doesn't play in the SEC. It would catch up with them. We have to pull at least top 15 talent or we will never be competitive in every game. I am no star watcher or negavol and I think the staff is doing the best they can under the circumstances. But if we can't pull the highest rated talent then we better be the best bargain hunters in the country.

Thanks for the info. I personally don't think the national ranking is all that important, the SEC ranking is what is significant. It doesn't really make a huge improvement if we're 15 nationally, but 9th in our own conference. Does that make sense?

A lot of Shulas top 15 players just won the national championship.

Top 15 will be good with all the OL we will take. Hard to land a top 10 class when we are taking so little skill positions.

We are going to end up with a top 15 class.....to expect anything better this year is crazy

Can someone remind me how many players we can sign this year. I know our roster is short and cant remember how the back-dating stuff goes.

But how many teams have won the SEC or even played in the SEC championship game that had good coaching but didn't get top 10 classes? I can only think of Miss.St. one year and that was while AL and Auburn had some probation issues in the 90's.

Top 15 classes are plenty good enough to compete in the SEC if you bring them in consistently over a 5 year stretch.

And I dont know why people continue to try and compare Boise to Tennessee. WTF is that? Their schedule comprises of a max of 2 BCS schools per year. And their success is NOT the NORM when you look at all the schools across college football who recruit similar classes full of 2* and 3* guys. Most of those schools are mired in mediocrity. Why do Tennessee fans assume that if they recruit like Boise they will be the next Boise or TCU for that matter? I could rattle of 25 schools that are average to below average that recruit similarly on paper.

It makes sense but people expecting us to land a Top 10 class nationally & a Top 5 class in the SEC are idiots, we are on 3 coaches in 3 years. We are not a hot commodity right now. Dooley has to sell kids on playing time & rebuilding a program while Meyer & Saban are selling kids on winning national titles & going to the NFL. Tennessee is a hard sell right now, we have to take what we can get & try our best to coach them up. I like our class right now & I think were still going to add more quality players that will help out alot in the future.

Of their 12 regular season games how many are Boise really playing per year that have recruited better than them over a 5 year period? 1? Maybe 2?

It's not hard to sell kids on TN or playing time. Dooley is the one that has to sell himself. Is he a coach that can win big games in the SEC?

Agree it'll take some time and a 15th ranked class is better than a 16th ranked class. I understand it'll take some time. It's true we doen't necessarily have to have better players to win, we need to develop them and coach them as a unit.

I'll take 5 years of 15th ranked recruiting classes with no attrition in place of 5 years in the top 10 where we lose 30% of each class to attrition.

people on here keep saying that TN is short on the roster of scholarship level players.
how many short are they?
and if they are short (with a very reasonable explanation as to why TN is in that spot) why is signing enough players to fill up not allowed?
i cna understand the situation USC will be in within the next 5 years, but to my knowledge, TN has not been on probation and punished with a limit on scholarships.
if the NCAA (or SEC) doesnt allow for a catchup, then how is TN different form being on probation?

What we really need in this class is for every single player we sign to qualify, we can't afford non-qualifiers right now & thats why I love Dooleys approach for high character & smart kids. Now IMO we can't fill every class with those type of players & expect to win in the SEC but for Dooleys first class I think this is a great move to add depth ASAP.

As we stand right now I think we have 65-67 healthy scholarship players, the NCAA allows 85 scholarship players. We are essentially missing a whole recruiting class.

The reason we are short is because of all the players leaving ( because of so many coaching changes ) & players being kicked off the team over the past 3 years. We can't fill up with one recruiting class because the SEC/NCAA only allows 25 players per class. Use to you could sign over 30 kids in each class to build the roster back up.
