Recruiting

WAY too early to be sweating recruiting evaluations by the so called experts.. :shades:

Rivals have us with 9 recruits. In as many years as I've followed recruiting religiously I've seen where verbals don't mean anything until signing day. We usually start out slow and peak right at the perfect moment. Don't pay any attention to what you read. One thing out of us not going to a bowl game is that the full crew is focusing on this while others have bbigger things to worry about.

They got the Gators at #4 class. Wonder if that includes the recruits from this past weekend after the FSU game. Paper says three guys walked into the Florida locker room when the game was over and verbally committed on the spot.

Rivals is more up to date than scout.com. We'll move up in the rankings as time goes. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

We will come on strong late as always.

I thought it was interesting, the number of in-state players that we have signed to this point.

This year can not help but hurt us in recruiting. :( It will be very important how we bounce back. Beat some tough teams next year and we will be ok.

UT can still have a top ten class, the coaches just need to bust their hump, while selling the kids on the idea that they are really needed, and can play early to bring UT Football back to where it belongs.

Check back two weeks before signing day and see where we're ranked. But like I said before, it won't matter until signing day. I have a feeling we'll pull some big names late and we'll steal a couple here and there as well.

There is lot of opportunity to play early at UT on defense!!!!!

Scout has us at ranked at 52 as of now. We only have 7 commitments, and 2 of those are soft. They are not shouwing any JUCO'S and I have seen where we had 2 strong JUCO's. One a LB. What are any of you hearing?

This was a big surprise. I know we finish strong but 52, thats a long way to go to get a top class.

We can only sign 16 this year which by itself will mean that our ranking will be lower than usual. Plus, we will finish off with our final 7 being specific need type players.

After watching some of our 4 and 5* recuits underperform this year and comparing them with one 3* freshman RB, I say bring on the 3* players with character and heart and we can beat your 5*s with ego and attitude problems.

I would gladly trade a top class of 4 & 5* players for 16 3* Foster type players.

this will be fulmer's worst recruiting class at tennessee. it's hard to sell your program when it looks so bad. it is even worse when fulmer doesn't know what is wrong.

Don't worry the season just ended and most Good high school teams are in the playoffs. As soon as Cut gets out and starts recruiting youll see a big change in the rankings. Nobody is truely committed until they sign a LOI. See Chris Simms a few years ago. Most college verbals right now are soft anyway. The ones you have to give up on are the ones that enroll prior to signing. Once they enroll that is a good sign they ain't playin for someone else.

Also their isn't a big differnce in a 3,4, or 5 star recruit. The different recruiting sites always have the same people rated different.

Jacquez McClendon seems to be thinking about looking at other schools now. Atleast that's what he said after receiving his TSAA Lineman Award the other night.

One thing coaches will have is plenty of time to evaluate and go after recruits with no practice or bowl game. Will have trouble selling to some kids with bad year but think we can still get some good kids. The ole, "We had a really bad year and you could be the star player to bring us back next year." line.

Of course he is. If I was a high star recruit everyone wants I would live it up and take all my visits get what ever they are willing to give and then go to the school I think I'm the best fit at. I don't think I would commit until signing day. One draw back is the school you choose may fill your spot before you sign.

It seems obvous to me that the place where we have immediate need is at the WR and DB positions. One benefit of having Cutcliffe back is that every prep All American QB will be daydreaming about being groomed by the guy who coached Peyton and Eli. Good recievers follow good QBs. Put the best receivers we can get on offense and send the others to knock down balls on D. I think we will be fine for the near future. :aggressive:

I don't want anyone from San Francisco on the team anyway.

Hillbilly, your statement about an immediate need for WR's and DB's couldn't be further from the truth. The defensive backfield could use a little depth but every starting spot will be filled long before this years class ever sets foot on campus. Any reciever that is signed will get minimal playing time at best. This time next year everyone on this board will be talking about wether or not Brett Smith is going pro. Smith along wiht Mechum, Swain, Shelley, Taylor, Briscoe and Rogers will make up one of the Best WR corps in the conference next year.

even if we have a bad recruiting year it wont hurt us as much as you may think, we redshirted most of our recruits last year, so it would be as if we signed them this year, an arian foster situation if they needed to contribute.
