To plagarize what somebody else said a few days ago... guess we won't have a smelley-cooter QB controversy.

Too good to pass that one up, had to get it in there again. :biggrin2:

We had no shot at Smelley...He was sold on USC when Steve Spurrier spent the whole day with him a few weeks ago...His actual first choice was Bama but Shula never offered...He made his decision this early to get it out of the way so he could enjoy his senior trip this week

From what I heard from my Bama friends is he wasn't that good anyway. He supposedly played in some 1a chump league. maybe we have a shot at ole Mitch. I doubt it. I think he will stay at ARk now that his HS coach is there.

To bad Smelly doesn't go to ARk. They could have a Smelly-Dick QB Controversy.

I do like the Smelly-Cooter Contro better

Yep played a 1a American Christian Academy in Tuscaloosa they threw the ball just about the whole time....His favorite
WR target is going to Clemson...But not to many great 1a players in the state...Although Brodie turned out decent

I'm hoping we land this DE from West End high school in Bham kid is a beast he is 6'6 runs a 4.65 and weighs 245 pounds kinda like Parys!!! rated 5 stars by scout....Also we need Tim Hawthorne from Homewood down here in Bham great WR 6'2 runs very well, excellent hands...I have been watching the kid play since 8th grade!!

Any word on Brent Vinson athlete out of virgina. He was supposed to announce today

Vinson was unable to make his trip to Virginia over the weekend, so he has delayed his decision until he makes that trip. UTK looks in good shape for him, unless UVA blows him away.

This weekend was a very good weekend. We made a very good impression on a couple of big time recruits. I think we will see some fruit bearing as a result of this weekend. Not necessarily soon, but in time.

I guess recruiting seems slow this year because we don't have a bowl game to talk about. Usually we would be talking bowl until after the first of January. Its hard to be patient until recruiting heats up in January.

I'm not too worried right now. If Fulmer can talk a kid into leaving Hawaii to come to East Tennessee anything's possible. He could probably sell a bald man a comb. :p

I have been hearing this for a couple of months and we keep moving in the wrong direction. I'd feel much better if we had some more verbal commitments.

I think the problem is worse then people want to admit. The best 2 prospects in this class committed last year, one as a junior and the other had to go JC route for a year to qualify. You take those 2 players out of the mix, then you got a really weak class.

Don't forget Mapu, not sure if he will count in this class, but I think he will. I'm not too concerned at this point. We don't have to have a great year this year. But we can't suffer several poor recruiting classes. Fulmer may not be the greatest coach in the world but he has proven time and time again that he can recruit.

You people have a short memory. Its still too early to be concerned. If we were not invovled with so many Top Recruits then maybe, but we are in the running to get TONS of the top recruits that are left on the board. Not to mention, we are in position to take a couple verbal commits away from some other schools. Remember, right now they have done nothing more than verbal. Signing is all that matters. Come time to sign on the dotted line UTK will have a very respectable class, considering how few a number of schollys they have to give out.

I think that has been the M.O. for TN. Not alot of verbals along the way and then on signing day-BAM!...I think it was in 2003 that it looked like we wern't going to get anyone and them on signing day we ended up with a top 5 or 10 class...It may be a strategy of Fulmer's to have the recruit remain quiet about his committment to keep the competition guessing and keep the heat off of him, especially on out of state recruits.

IMO what happens is, they see FL or GA has already signed a big name QB or RB or DB and they decide to go to UT because they haven't already signed a big name at DB or QB or wherever.

Also, FL or GA have limited scholarships and when these guys wait till the last day to commit, if they decide they want to go to FL or GA, FL may not have a scholarship left to give, so they end with their second choice UT or GA or whoever.

Like this year I dont think UT has that many scholarships to give, and they cant sign everyone they have offered scholarships to I'm sure. They assume everyone they offer to aren't all going to decide they want to attend UT. :twocents:

Fulmer is a great recruiter but i think that some people are giving him too much credit at this point.

A 5 and 6 record is hard to overcome in recruiting no matter who is doing the recruiting. Moreover there have been a number of staff changes and we do not even know if there will be a new wide receiver coach.

I think UT will be lucky to have a top 20 recruiting class.
