Referees were finally on our side?

Clearly not pass interference. šŸ˜‚

Does anyone have a shot of the tackle in the endzone by the wr on our DB? Even Bamasucking Danielson had to call that one.

First Time in modern history that Tennessee came into this game undefeated which means that the league now finally has a vested interest in seeing US get wins. That made us financially ā€œequalā€ to the calculus and finally got us an actually neutral crew. A Tennessee Team is worth Just as many dollars in the playoff as an undefeated Bama team. Maybe more considering that 49 out of 50 states are teeming with viewers aching for Bama comeuppance

How many false starts, off sides, delay of games, illegal blacks on kicks, and holding penalties did Bama have?

12 totalā€¦ā€¦..those really arenā€™t biased.

That would have been 2nd most under Sabanā€¦ā€¦.that is lack of discipline.

Hmmm since there are Vol fans who complain constantly about the refs and think the only reason Bama has been so dominate is because of the refs, is it safe to say the only reason we beat Bama was because the refs gave us the game?

Can we all take a moment to appreciate the fact that a man whose job it is to officiate football games had to publicly announce "The ruling of fourth down is under review," and then required five minutes to determine that it was, indeed, fourth down?
Yeah, all I could do was shake my head. Unfortunately thatā€™s not the first time Iā€™ve seen them have to do that.

We got away with a couple roughing the passers oh Bryce. They got away with a few holding calls on offense.

The refs blew the whistle too early and ruled forward progress stopped too early on Jaylen Wright and Alabama should have recovered a fumble. They got six points on a bogus PI call in the end zone and would have to take a FG instead.

So overall, it was even IMO.

If this game was at Alabama or Georgia,

I doubt we get some of those calls.

Agreed!! For one, I don't think we would have gotten the field goal attempt at the end of regulation & would have gone to overtime instead. We have lost at least one bitter game in recent memory where the refs ran the clock out for us.

And p.s., we would have won in overtime.

The officials blew the PI call on us in the end zone when our defender was pulled down by the receiver. But, they gave us one back when they called pass interference on Bama later at the 1 yd line when pass was deflected and picked off. Close call, but I thought that one was clean.

As General Neyland said though, if at first the breaks don't go your way, put on more steam. That's exactly what we did. From all of the players to all of the fans!

I SAID IT'S GREAT TO BE A TENNESSEE VOL!

That WAS Pi on Bama. Even Saban loveboy Danielson admitted that.

When a RB starts being pushed backwards by the defense the play is dead. Anything that occurs during that doesnā€™t matter. Wright was clearly stopped and being pushed back when the ball came out.

I think they just finally called a mostly fair game and Bama fans are furious. They botched the PI in the end zone that gave Bama a TD but whatever. We still pulled it off. And Iā€™ve rewatched it several times, that was definitely a PI on them so Bama fans can whine all they want.

Alabama fans can only blame the refs because it's the only defense they have.
What penalty had a more significant swing than Alabama committing a PI and Tennessee getting flagged for it? What Alabama penalty should not have been called? The only thing I hear them saying is "What about the hit on Bryce" to which I say, why not have Bryce throw the ball away or slide. Refs didn't force him to keep the ball until you are 1/3 of a second from being road kill.
As for the volume of legitimate penalties called against Bama, they should learn to deal with crowd noise and be more disciplined.

To the original question, I just say clearly not cheating for Bama. Could be a sea change, a whole new reality, but I doubt it.
itā€™s hard for a smart person to really critique football refs, as the disparity is really around the omissions rather than their actions. Easy for a dumb person, though.

i think there were some bad calls both ways honestly... BUT the biggest thing that stood out to me was the refs WERE NOT giving Bama all the breaks like in the past

Saban's check must not have cleared

No, I think youā€™re just being a crybaby here. It looked to me like everybody in the whole stadium, including the refs, knew what down it was, but the guy holding the sign insisted that it be called into question. Thatā€™s how it looked.

It's "crying" to point out how absurd it is that a group of professional officials had to go thru that process? I'm pretty sure the guy holding the down marker doesn't get to insist on a review any time he disagrees with the officiating crew.

I am sorry, but what was the bad call that Tennessee benefitted from? The one "late hit" that may be questioned was the result of our player being semi-tackled by an Alabama offensive lineman. I literally did not see a holding call during the game that should have been called on Tennessee but saw time and time again Alabama offensive linemen literally tackled our d-linemen.

I truly believe the Crew was selected for this game was hand picked. Given a study sheet of calls missed and made in Alabama's and Tennessee's Games and were told not to screw this up. Call it as close to the book as possible. The missed call in the Texas A&M game was bad and the several missed calls in the Texas Game was another. The hen has come home to roost and roast. Off season Shenanigan's with Saban and Fisher may also be a factor and Saban had gotten to big for his britches. Saban has lost or is losing his Ambassadorship to SEC Football.

The only bad missed call on UT was the DB getting both hands on Bond's facemask and pulling him down backward. I was pretty surprised that didn't get called. But Bama scored on that possession, so the miss didn't actually affect the game in any meaningful way. In fact, that was the same drive where UT got a pretty dicey DPI in the endzone, so the refs might have dished out a make-up call for the missed facemask.

For the first time in 15 or more years, the Refs call a decent game. I think they missed a few interference calls on Alabama, but most of time their defenders were so far away from our receivers they did not get the chance to interfere. In addition, Alabama is one of the most penalized team in the SEC. They are making more mistakes which means they are grabbing and holding to try to save the butts. They earned ever penalty they had plus some.
