The difference in Tenn-Ole Miss and Texas-Ga was in the Tenn game it was like the 3rd or 4th very difficult call against the Vols. We all remember the Baron TD that was blown dead that started off the fiasco. Refs & Ole Miss fake injuries were clearly the issues that night. I watched the Texas game & that really was the first bad call I remember (granted, I was celebrating while watching). The story up to that point was how bad Ga was beating Texas physically all over the field. I believe that had a lot to do with Texas fans reaction. As a Tennessee fan, I’m hesitant to sit on a high horse and complain about other fans throwing trash onto the field. However, the media completely and repeatedly trashing UT for it in 2021 and just sweeping it under the rug when other other teams like Georgia, Ole Miss, and Texas do it, that is really frustrating to deal with.
It was a bad call from the start. Kirby Smart talked them into the late flag. Happy they all got their heads together and made the right call even though it was embarrassing for them to do.
By Texas fans. Cowards. This needs to be called out. I never advocate for refs to get called out or fined but they can’t get away with allowing themselves to be pushed around my Texas fans. Cowardice. Ridiculous.
It doesn’t matter how many bad calls there are. There’s no excuse a fan has of throwing bottles or anything else onto the field. I was disgusted with Tennessee fans that night, but I’m just as disgusted with the media’s hypocrisy of condemning Tennessee while not caring when other teams do it.The difference in Tenn-Ole Miss and Texas-Ga was in the Tenn game it was like the 3rd or 4th very difficult call against the Vols. Let me clarify I’m not the “fire him as my first reaction,” type guy. Are there firable offenses? Yes, but I think folks these days are so quick to call for it. Every single time something happens the first things ppl jump to is FAHHHRRRR HIIMMMMMMM!!! LolWhy would you not advocate for a referee to be called out of fined for egregious errors?

The pass interference was a bad call. Unfortunately, that happens more than it should.
However, I can't think of a worse precedent to set than caving in to unruly fans, and leading them to believe that they can get calls overturned by pitching a fit and throwing debris on the field.
It's easy to predict what will happen the next time Texas is at home, and they're screwed on a judgment call.
Everybody gets hosed once in a while. The refs should have let the bad call ride. You can't reward bad behavior.
The NCAA needs to have a new rule implemented today: If the game is interrupted by someone off the field of play, the ruling on the field STANDS, no matter what. plus a 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty.
absolutely can't make it look like the home fans can get calls changed. granted its difficult because it was a turnover, but there is a reason "make up calls" are kinda accepted, or at least ignored. that just looked bad. can't review, announce it, mark the down and distance, and then say oopsie on an unreviewable call.
This is a great post Firebird! When people talk about the Refs cheating for Alabama and Texas, I guess I never thought I would see it at that level. I am going to assume that they looked at the jumbotron and it was effectively a review, although I didn't really look for that while the whole thing was going on.
That would be the only time the state of Louisiana was in the front of technologyThis is a great post Firebird!
I remember the first ever rule handed down by the SEC regarding the Jumbotron. I think Dinardo was still the coach but, the refs had made a call. Huddled together. Kept watching the LSU Jumbotron and changed the call due to what they watched.
The next week, the SEC told all member schools that they could only Replay a play once. The thing was, LSU was the only SEC school to have a Jumbotron at that time.
The good ole boys of the SEC get the courtesy of understanding. Meanwhile, they say it was a single bad call when it was at Neyland - Not the 34 injury timeouts. We’re not far enough south, I guess.I just read an article on ESPN.com about the Texas fans throwing bottles onto the field. The article also mentions Tennessee from 2021. However, it doesn’t mention the UGA fanbase from the 2022 national championship game against Bama doing the same thing. And also it didn’t mention Ole Miss doing the same thing last year. So sickening.
There has to be accountability with officials. I get it that officiating is hard, and there's lot of opportunity for error but they're consistent in their inconsistency. A holding call for one team might not be a holding call for another. Why would you not advocate for a referee to be called out of fined for egregious errors?
Right. I was there in 21 against Ol Miss and what no one wants to talk about is how that whole debacle started - Ol Miss fans in the upper decks started launching drinks down on the students/band when a couple calls didn’t break their way. Another fake injury, the TD that was called back, and then chaos unfolded. But it was the Ol Miss folks that got it started. We just finished the job. That would be a terrible rule. Flag the bad behavior, okay, but don’t handcuff the officials. Remember, opposing fans are there too.
