Barack Obama a "light-skinned" African-American who lacked a "Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one." Harry Reid

Reid apologizes for 'Negro' remark - Manu Raju and David Rogers - POLITICO.com

Boy the fire storm if it were a Republican!

He made these comments more than a year ago -- ever reported? Nope course not he is a Dem.

Anyone in the media ever think of asking him to resign over such "insensitivity?" Why, of course not. He can go on to be (and stay) the leader of the House majority party!

Since he’s a Democrat, he’ll get a 100% free pass.

Trent Lott was forced to resign over something far more innocuous.

I despise Harry Reid but I also despise all the gotcha racism accusations.

I don't believe he's a racist anymore than I believe Trent Lott is a racist.

Agree 100%. I think Michael Steele is going down the wrong path by continuing to play the "gotcha" game. He should just point out the hypocrisy . . . loudly and repeatedly . . . and let the voters nail the Democrats.

It's acceptable to be a racist as long as you are a Liberal Democrat. The same ones who are defending Reid were the same ones calling for Lott to step down.

Gotcha!!!

Lets blame the brother for trying to clean up the mess that Bush left. He assumed that position at the end of that 8 year debacle... but lets blame him.

You just made it about race. Where did I say that it was because he is black? Where did I say that I "blame" him for the past eight years or anything else.
I am sorry that you have a chip on your shoulder about the fact that he is black. I do not.
He is not the "leader" that the GOP needs right now, imo.

There is definitely some hipocrisy in how these off-the-cuff type remarks are perceived. I think the main reason for that is that the Dems are still viewed, whether you agree with it or not, as much more inclined towards policy that favors minorities. As a consequence, I think the Dems do get away with more when it comes to this kind of comment.

If the Republicans are upset about it, the solution for them is easy, and that is to become more genuinely interested in the goals and financial interests of minorities. Although from time to time they pay it lip service, Republican lawmakers by and large do not support policies viewed in the black and Hispanic communities as very favoralbe to them.

what goals should the gop work with minorities? give them more handouts? give them preferences for jobs? lower the bar for them to get into schools?

this is why blacks and minorities are dems. most want handouts. plain and simple.

Yea all of these government entitlement programs endorsed by the dems have really helped the minorities in this country.

How long and how much money have the Dems spent on the War on Poverty? Its good to see all that hard work and cash make a difference.

The dems know as long as they keep these entitlement programs going they have a voting base there forever.

Realizing that the above sentiments are fairly reflective of the GOP on the whole, and particularly the currently very strong right-most corners of the party, one wonders why the minority community doesn't contirbute more to the GOP.

If minorities ever realized your party was the reason a good percentage of them stay poor, they would go to the GOP in mass. Your party wants to keep as many minorities own the govt payroll and dumbed down as much as possible.

please explain in detail how democrats "reach out" to minorities in ways that don't involve handing them money.

that is their definition of reaching out. they know that if more people rely on the government, the dems will hold onto power. there is no other definition of 'reaching out' by the dems.

you either 'reach out' by giving money or you reach out by giving them opportunity to work.

the fact is that it is the dems who are the racist. no by words but by actions. only dems are the ones who want to make it very easy for black to abort their offspring. it was a dem who founded planned parenthood based upon racism. dems are hypocrites.
